I am really really stupid... And it is from lazyness...MAF plug broken

So I was taking off my Stillen K&N intake and MAF sensor to clean it, I already cleaned and took apart my IACV and my TB so those are good...

I was taking off that Stillen ring adapter thing that goes around the intake and I noticed that I could not reach one of the bolts to take it off. (Can't remember how I did it in the past but I remember using a wrench). Well I did not feel like getting my wrench this time(where my stupidity comes in) So I decided to take the 4 screws off the MAF sensor plug with my screwdriver... ONLY to find out the whole thing is soldered when I pulled it out of the way...

I should of not pulled it but I thought it had a clip on it... The better qustion, IS why did Nissan put screws on the part if it could not be removed? Stupid...

The worst part about this... Is there does not seem like a real way I can re-solder it unless I take off that black cover off which is like epoxed on with RTV.

**update**

I guess the only good part is the damage is not horrid. IT just seem to break the solder welds just right so that they contact when I put the plug back in. However I cannot keep it like this because it would be stupid... and I will have an issue down the road somewhere. I just wish I could resolder it but I can't, and these suckers are like $100 bucks new.

Also. I notcied there is another plug that is not plugged into anything what is this? I bought this Cone filter off someone lightly used and this was like this..... The cone had these 3 holes in it, and the guy told me it was for some sensor when I asked him about it, so I glued it shut.

Does this possible go into it? Cause this also was not plugged in...

yah, i am typing really fast and my hands are covered in dirt and greese... No and not talking about the MAF plug... for the plug that is just hanging out... I am trying to get a pic up but my cell email is having issues... Other then that... The plug that goes into the MAF tube is the one I broke after taking off the 4 screws...

So say the plug somehow disconnects from the solder points... I already have an SES light up from my EGR... Will I notice anything massively different if it disconnects half way though? I know the engine will just run really crappy and rough... but will high idle and more gas be used?

With no maf your engine will not exceed 2500 rpms...also it will most likely die a lot.

& o ok, good then, so it did not disconnect yet, I beem driving it for a day so far and I must say, doing this cleaning helped idle a lot and pickup is a tiny bit better, but I got more work... including the EGR, and Tuneup with a Tune...

So does anyone know what the plug is for? It does not even look like a sensor cause the tip is even made of plastic.

That's the IAT, although the bolt pattern on the filter looks like a 95-96 style, not the 97-99 style you have a pic of. What year is yours, and what year is your intake for?

my max is a 98, but the guy I bought the K&N filter off did not tell me what he had it on... He just said he had it on his 97 max and he only used it for a few months... and he sold me the Stillen ring with it and such.

And is the IAT important? Cause this car had an intake on it when I bought it until I took it off and tossed it (ebay grabarge) but I did not see the plug until now.

I added a new picture of the IAT... Now is the Intake Air temp sensor important to have? Too think this thing was just sitting out there the whole time... and it was not even plugged into the old one, I did not even see it before when I replaced it because it was like tucked good near the fender and a few vacuum hoses.

I bet this is another reason for bad Gas mileage. Cause it can't sense the cars air temp... but where can I plug it? The car did not come with the air box or snorkal thing when I bought it a year ago.

Thats your IAT you are holdin in the picture, it measures how much air is going through you intake, so yes it is important, it connects after your MAF in the pipe. That sitting out exposed is probably reading bad intake temp(especially with throttle responsiveness), affecting performance in a way for sure. If you have aftermarket piping there still should be a hole to plug it into, if not you might have to drill one.

Well NmexMax also believes it does, and even though the FSM states the opposite I'm inclined to believe him (since I've done no testing, nor have any anecdotal information of the sort).

Well my theory is that if the IAT gets to a certain degree that it will sorta put the ecu into a sort of safe mode...like the KS would...thus decreasing timing and such...but I havent gotten time to test it out...nor have I passed that by Nmex....
