it unscrews. let me guess the black part (leather i guess??) just keeps spinning right? i used a pipe wrench to get it off. try that

They use a glue of some sort at the factory to secure the factory ****. I had to use vise grips to get my stock **** off.

So i should basically try to unscrew it thus forcing it with a wrench?

Just tagging along...

A friend of mine got his off using vice grips as well. Had to force the thing off.

So i cant post a thread of my own yet... :-( So i'll tag along a bit longer.

I have a 95 automatic with the overdrive button. Does anyone know if a replacement is possible? I've done some searching but nothing is coming up.

If anyone knows, much obliged!

I took off the stock shifter on my 96 just a few weeks back and it was a huge pita. I just kept trying as hard as my arms would physically allow for about 5 minutes and eventually it broke free.

If you can't muscle it off, just put a towel around it and use a wrench/vice grip to twist it off. I just installed a B&M sts this weekend with the help of my dad and had to take off the stock ****. It was glued all the way through and so it was tough to get off.

u guys all make it so complicated....your going to mess up the stock **** 95% no matter how u take it off....so what u shud do is.....take a heatgun, put it under the ****....it softens the glue, rubber...and it comes right loose......
