anyone selling a new knock sensor or where i can buy one for less than $100. Not sure if i need to replace it but my car is a 98 max with 150k so think i might aswel replace it before any light come on and to improve fuel efficency.

get someone with small arms/hands to reach into the manifold valley and loosen the bolt.

once thats off, remove the old knock sensor from the harness, attach the new one and CAREFULLY place it back in its seat. then get the person with the small hands to rethread the bolt.
dont overtighten the bolt. these things are fragile. tighten it to "snug + 1/4 turn" if you dont have a torque wrench that could fit in there (few people do)

Don't mean to ***** the thread, but what is the advantage of the composite KS?

You can pm me if you'd rather not post in xorox's thread.

Thanks.

I don't think he was looking for directions, but whether or not if he should change it to save gas mileage...And I was in the same position as xorox and just replaced my KS for the hell of it and found my KS cracked when i finally removed it.

The thought the composite KS from a 5th gen was less vulnerable to cracking unlike most 4th gen KS.

By the way.. the OEM Nissan part number for the knock sensor on BOTH the 4th AND 5th gen Maximas is the SAME PART NUMBER. So the 5th gen knock sensor is NO BETTER than the 4th gen. They are the same part! In fact, Nissan uses this very same knock sensor on MANY different models..
I can still get them for $90 SHIPPED, brand new Nissan part. They list for $167.
