Heated seat wiring question

Hi guys,

Quick question...

I just got some heated seat switches, but no harness that plugs into them. What I need to know is what the pins are (like Power in +, power in -, power to seat + and power to seat -)

Anyone have a diagram, or explanation? Thanks!

Not quite what I need.

I need to tell from the switch itself, which pin goes to which.

Also, I noticed that the heated seat switches are connected to a thermostat switch? Do I need to do that? or can I just wire directly from the fusebox to the heated seat switch, then to the seat itself?

Side question: I was trying to replace my Center vents, but I can't get the emergency switch and the rear window defroster switch out...in doing so I broke the rear window defroster switch and now need a new one. How do you get those switches out w/ out breaking them? There is only 1 black tab that holds them in on one side, but it won't push out after that. Help?

The pic above shows pin numbers on the switch...

1 - Fused B+
2/3 - Power
4 - Gnd

Thermo switch appears to be a part of the seat.

How to tell which pin is which on the actual switch, that's the question...they're not labeled 1,2,3,4 on there... there are just 4 pins.

There may be numbers on your switch you just have to look very closely. The contact numbers are usually molded into the switch.

Otherwise you have to use an ohmmeter and the process of elimination. Pin 1 would be a complete short (0 ohms) to pin 2 when the switch is set on low. Pin 2 would be a short to pin 4 when the switch is set on high. Also pin 1 would be a short to pin 3 when the switch is set on high. In the switch circuit above the arrows represents a multiple throw circuit meaning all three arrows move together when the switch is set on high, off or low. That's the best I can do to explain it.

At worse you could pull it apart and check for markings on the PCB itself, it may very well say there. A quick look at the board should also clue you in on what lead does what.

OK, update:

1. There are no markings on the pins, I looked very closely.
2. I took one apart, and there are no markings on the inside either

I'm going to try doing the nopike's method, but I don't understand exactly what he means. I'm definitely not an electrical engineer, so could someone lay it out simple for me? Thanks

Refresh the image I posted above, I've expanded it to show the harness connector. I completely forgot that that was even in the FSM, but there you go. It shows what pin numbers are what, on the harness side. Generally it's when you're looking directly at the connector, with the tab facing upwards.

The markings, if there are any, would not be on the pins they would be molded into the plastic part of the switch near the pins.

Yeah, they're not there.

I've been testing the pins and have no conclusive evidence. And now I have a wrinkle: the 2 heated seat switches seems to be different....One has a small plastic separator between 2 of the pins.

Haha, that's probably true.

Now I just need to create my own wiring harness so that the wires don't cross and short.

Thanks guys!

If you can wait a week, there are a few setups in my local junkyard I can snag you a few harnesses from.

Actually that'd be awesome. Much easier than making my own. Please let me know when you can hook that up! Danke
