It newbie's question, but I got to make sure
My cars ADR rims are cracked, and craigslist lookup gave me 2 choices

1) 2005 350Z rims + mounted tires ( 225/50/17) have 20% thread for 300$
2) 2006 Altima rims (225/60/17) tire again 20% thread left.

I have a feeling that 350z rims would be stronger than altima's?? (is that belief correct?)

my car is presently on 235/45/17, I am worried about width of 350z tires,
Can any one please tell me if 350z tires fit without any modification.

Track rims, regular, what?

They'll be about the same re: strength, short of the track rims (debatable anyway).

Stock sizes are 225/50/17 for base, Enthusiast, and Touring; 225/45/18 for Perf, Track, and AE.

The rims should fit, yes. It may look like crap staggered, though.

dont know about which rim will be stronger.but either choice of rim will definately fit.So choose.

 

Thanks all for the advice, just now I had a look at both of them, both were regular rims
350Z is base version with rear tiresize 235/50-17. Its fits but just enough
Altima is 225/50/17 : fits but the wheel+tire feels lot heavier than 350z.

will wait tonight and make decision tomorrow morning. Also hoping that some other people will chip in with useful comments.

TO the first respondent: Appreciated your reply, at least you tried to the best of your abilities.

 

The Z rims fit. I have them! some love them some hate them, I think they look good. My car is also dropped 1.5", no rubbing at all, front or rear.

 

I would go for 350z rims.Plus with altima + tires you'll get your speedo not accurate

 

I have them on my 96 Maxima with Tein S-Techs. Front are 225-55-17 and rear is 245-50-17. On the rare occasion that I hit a pothole at great speed, the front drivers tire has scrubbed ever so slightly on the inner fender well. I attribute that mostly to needing new/better struts.

Thanks, I think I was pretty fortunate in what I received. It has tan leather, and believe it or not is nearly perfect, especially for the age of the car.

I had a 1995 240SX SE hardtop that I traded for the Maxima. I got the Maxima, some cash, and kept the wheels and stereo from the 240SX, which as you can tell are now on the Maxima. Here's the 240SX that was in the trade.



This makes my second foray into the world of the Maxima. I bought a 99 Max GXE for the Ex back in 03, and she had it for a couple years before she traded it in on an 03.5 Infiniti G35. As the other Maxima was hers, there really were no upgrades or changes made to it. This one I hope to have a great deal of fun with.

Always open to suggestions if you have any thoughts about other additions or upgrades.

how many miles on 240x and what year model miles on maxima?

 

It was a 1995 240SX with 250K miles.

The Maxima is a 1996 SE with Leather, and had about 229K on it when I picked it up.

This goes along with the Nissans in my house. I have an 05 Xterra Off Road 6spd, and a 93 240SX Convertible. The vert has the SR20DET, 5spd swap, and several other toys added in.

Yep, the Xterra is the 6spd MT. I prefer a manual in every vehicle I own. The Xterra is Red Brawn, the Convertible is Super Black. I am told that the Maxima is called Ruby Pearl. Can anyone confirm this?

Thoughts on other upgrades?

 

the 350z rims definetly fit. the rears are 235 (same size as what's on your car now) and the fronts are even narrower at 225. i just took some off my '95 that i sold. they were a great investment and made a huge difference in the handling (ok, so it was actually the tires that made the difference, but you get my point).

you can even mount the larger tires on the front and they don't scrub, at least on a non-lowered car they don't. looked a little strange but some argue it helps fight understeer.

I gotta get tires for my 17x7.5 +30 and 17x8 +33 350z base rims. I'll be running a vogtland 1.4/1.4 drop, and really would like to nicely fill the fenders... no, not "break out the metal snips and make some room", more like "that fender will never catch a cat"...

FWIW I don't care about my speedo going off just a bit for the sake of a tire that fills the fenderwell better...

I'd REALLY like to fit 50 series rubber under there, but I don't see many org'ers using it with 17's and a drop.

Should I be safe and get 45 series?

I bought fr33way's rims. They're damn nice, in 99% perfect shape. If I remember his recommendation properly, I think as far as width I'll go with 235's all around.

I love that the offset on these plays perfectly into the fact that the Max's track is narrower in the rear... so by putting the wider rims on the back it so almost makes things flush... and the paltry 1/2" difference in rim width I think won't be noticeable, as on the visible side you only see 1/4" extra rubber, and heck, that's really not visually noticeable unless you get right down there and look all close and stuff...

 

I kinda have the same question. I have a set of 350z enthuziast rims, 225 in the front and 235 in the back. With 50 profile my rear wheels rub when I have any passengers in my car or hit a bump at decent speeds (Bridgestone Potenzas). I've taken them off for winter as I have the stock rims mounted with exaltos which are great in the snow. Before i put the rims back on next spring, I'm going to need to replace the rubber, as the rear fender has slowly stripped pieces of rubber off.

Highest priority as far as tires are going to be comfort. I tend to drive a decent amount in the city, and don't have a great back thanks to a clueless driver and a head on collision a few years ago. Surprisingly, the z rims didn't reduce the comfort level too much, but that could be because of the higher profile (50)... Any suggestions?

 

Have a question abt the 350z rims on 4th gen maximas. The rims i would like to put on mine (98 maxima se) are the 03-05 350z wheels. now i understand that they are sold as sets of rear rims and front rims. I looked at mutliple forums & apparantly they fit the 4th gen models. but my question is does it matter if u put the rear rims on the rear (or front) of a maxima <-> or the front 350z wheels on the front (or rear) of a maxima? does it matter? are they interchangeble? PLEASE RESPOND

 

basicly could i purchase 4 rear rims.. or four front rims.. and install or would i have to purchase two rear rims and two front rims.. & how would i mount them since 350z's are rear wheel drive and maximas are front wheel drive vehicles.

 

you could BUT the offset differs IIRC between front and rear, they are also different widths....SO, if you put the rears on the front it will look weird and vice versa

yes - you can buy 4 front wheels

yes - you can buy 4 rear wheels

yes - you can buy 2 fronts and 2 rears

If you choose the third, i would throw the rear wheels in the back because they are wider.

 

yes they will fit, even the 18's fit

dude, there is a thread with nothing but OEM wheels on 4th gens... go SEARCH for it... youll find them... And spacers should be the least of your worries. They wont poke so you dont have a problem there, if you dont like um sunk, get spacers...
