Ok fellas, this just recently started. No CEL's, oil recently changed...whenever i start the car first thing in the morning i press the brake pedal and put it into reverse the car stalls dead. If i dont put my foot on the pedal and just switch it to reverse it does not do this. Only happens in the morning and goes away in about 20 seconds after the car is warmed up. Other than that there is no way to duplicate the problem. Any suggestions?

 

hmm my guess is that your maf sensor is starting to go bad.

 

I, too, am also experiencing this. Funny thing is I really didn't worry about it until today when, also, in the morning this occurred to me. Previous to today, it would happen occassionally and instead of stalling completely, the vehicle would stutter and would eventually return to normal RPMs. We'll see how it is tomorrow when I try to start it again. Anyone else have any comments regarding this? Any votes supporting the idea that the MAF sensor is the culprit? Thanks.

If you want to see if the MAF sensor is at fault--unplug it before starting your car. It will run without it but don't do it for long. Plus--it will set a code and light up your CEL. If the car still does it with the MAF unhooked-it's could be a vacuum leak, bad ground connections or just about anything.

How does the car run otherwise? Any rough idle, hesitation on acceleration, stuff like that?

NO! DON'T adjust the idle speed screw *****-nilly and "play" with it!
Not unless you also want to screw up your gas mileage and performance.
There is a proper procedure for adjusting your idle and it is controlled electronically after that. If you mess with it and don't use the proper procedure you're an idiot.

Aside from the fact that this has NOTHING to do with the problem you are having.

I would have your battery tested. I know this sounds odd but these cars do some really weird crap when a cell in the battery is dead or dying. Mine was blowing the 30A ignition fuse on startup--replaced the bad battery and the problem went away.

 

Check you battery, alternator, fuel filter, pcv valve, spark plugs?
is the knock sensor good...if it's been broken for a while it could mess things up
