Brand new Dell Vostro Laptops with full warranty
Brand new Dell Vostro Laptops with full warranty
Gauging interest here on the forums for anyone that might need a nice quality laptop. The company I work for recently became a reseller for Dell and we get a discount on particular items that we order a lot of for our customers. What we would do is have you call into the office and provide your credit/debit card information and place the order for you *in your name and to your address*. This way you don't have to worry about having to get in contact with us if something goes wrong with the system because you are covered completely by Dell's warranty.
Currently Dell has a promotion on their website for an Vostro 1400 Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5270 processor, dual channel 2 GB of DDR2 ram memory, 250 GB hard drive, Windows XP Home Edition or Windows Vista Basic, built in wireless, DVD RW, 14.1 LCD anti-glare display, and other features. Right now, Dell lists that on their site for $899 with an instant $220 savings for $679 + Tax with free shipping. If my information is correct, we can get these out to you for $529 + Tax with free shipping. That's an additional $150 off their already discounted price.
**The best thing is that these are shipped directly to you IN YOUR NAME from Dell, thus they are not second hand systems, they are brand new in the box directly from Dell, thus giving you full warranty protection for your computer**
I'm passing this along to .org members for helping me out with my Maxima and the issues that I've had with it, along with the issues I'm sure to have in the future...
So, basically I'm passing along the savings that my company gets by passing along the savings to you guys. I've got to confirm with my boss tomorrow the price that we get from our Dell representative just to make sure I'm not telling anyone the wrong information.
From what I understand, we get the biggest discounts on these Vostros laptops. The discount that we get for desktop systems is pretty insignificant (only like $20-30), but with used systems on here recently going for $500+, I figured I'd offer you all brand new systems with a full warranty for around the same price.
Anyway, post in the thread and let me know if you're interested.

Thank you phenryiv1.
nissanguy8: Up until sometime last year, dell did not charge tax for most internet orders and then all the sudden they did start charging tax. I discussed it with one of their reps and they said as long as they have a store presence in a state, they are required to charge tax. I ran your zip code on their site and it does look like they charge tax in Cali. At Dell's standard price, tax would run you $31.74. At the discount it would be a bit less though. It sucks, but at least they offer free shipping.
There's a *chance* I might be getting these at $499. I'll let you know Monday.

Yes, anything available with the Vostro on Dell's site you can do. If you wanted the extended warranty or in home service warranty you can do that as well. They offer anything from the standard one year warranty up to a three year "ProSupport". I'm not sure if I can get discounted rates on the warranty as well, but will let you all know tomorrow and give you all the number to call to place the order if you want the discount.
The support options they offer are 1-3 years of basic support or 1-3 years of the "ProSupport", which is significantly more expensive and honestly, I don't think it has much added benefit to justify the cost. Additionally, these systems can either ship with no anti-virus or a 30 day McAfee trial. I don't recommend either McAfee or Norton... honestly, most the systems that I work on that have virus/malware issues have one of those two installed and they cause more problems than they help solve. I recommend going with no pre-installed AV solutions and then once you get the system, load AVG anti-virus which is free for life, uses less system resources and thus makes your system run better. I think they have more comprehensive virus protection in my personal experience. Anyone can download it free from http://free.grisoft.com

The deal our rep is giving isn't so great right now... it changes from week to week. However she pointed out a better alternative so here you all go.
Here's the $499 laptop. Larger monitor than originally spec'd. It's not the 1400 that I was talking about earlier, but probably better. Advantage is besides the larger monitor, you get a 128 mb video card built in, instead of the integrated on board video, thus it's better for graphic intensive programs.

Dual core desktop with 19" widescreen monitor. $379

They're going to have another special here next week. I'll post links asap. Rockart, I've been getting the Vostro 200 dual cores with XP and a 20" widescreen lately for $379. They're $469 right now, so hold off just a bit.
I can get a crap desktop through Dell for $300, but I wouldn't recommend their configuration.
Right now, the best deal on one is $424 for a dual core AMD laptop and $399 for an Intel dual core desktop with a 19" widescreen with a tiny hard drive. I'd hold off for a few until I get something available with a sweeter deal.
The laptop is definitely a good deal right now though.
