97 5-speed

i went to a local 1000' track tonight. its here in Centerville AR. the weather seemed optimal. my mods are headers, y-pipe, intake.

i think i finally learned the art of slipping the clutch off the line tonight. my clutch didn't like it to well apparently. i had bought a stage 1 from ebay...but it looks like i got what i paid for. after i would slip the clutch on launch, my clutch would slip shifting into 2nd and 3rd. anyway...here are my times in order when i got there....

the first run was done right when i got there...first time trying to slip the clutch ever

r/t .3564
60' 2.1511
330' 6.1026
1/8th 9.3698 @ 75.52
1000' 11.9586 @ 87.99

second run dropped the clutch (old habit)

r/t .2963
60' 2.2219
330' 6.1248
1/8th 9.3829 @ 75.87
1000' 11.9673 @ 88.15

third run tried slipping the clutch again...after this run it would slip in 2nd shift and third shift

r/t .3697
60' 2.1084
330' 6.0051
1/8th 9.2561 @76.05
1000' 11.8319 @88.51

fourth and final run....got a little more comfortable slipping the clutch...i know for sure i would have gotten an 11.7xx on this run because the clutch slipped really bad in 2nd and third.....still decent i guess

r/t .3442
60' 2.0917
330' 5.9961
1/8th 9.2544 @75.76
1000' 11.8351 @88.22

i have street tires for the record. need two or three stage clutch perhaps?? haha

many people were so surprised how quick it was with basically just exhaust work....wait till they see me in the 10's in the 1000' foot with 75 shot of nitrous coming soon!!

Stage 2 or three, or just get a real stage 1 clutch. What kind did you get?

Excellent 60' times.

Just get a real clutch and forget the cheapo ebay **** and you're good to go. something like an ACT HDSS would work great for you if you're adding a 75 shot.

thanks neal for the advice!

its taken a while to know how to slip the clutch off the line....it sure is awesome beating most people off the line....but as for my top end....its not so nice. hopefully the nitrous will fix most of that!

neal you mentioned the ACT HDSS clutch.... would the Exedy Stage two be about the same quality and hold the power like the ACT HDSS clutch? i'm asking because there is about a $100 difference!

I don't know how the Exedy stages match up with ACT. But I do like Exedy clutches, they are quality. I'd guess it would be OK, do you have a link to it?

Edit: I just looked it up on exedy's website, and the Stage 2 appears to be their most aggressive clutch for the max, so I would guess that it is at least the equal of the ACT HDSS in terms of torque capacity - though without any tq capacity figures I can't be sure. ACT HDSS is ACT's lowest tq capacity clutch for the max (and still rated at like 375lb-ft though I believe that may be a bit optimistic).

Hey good show, great sixty foot! Seems like a few more people are figuring out how to pull better short times lately which is good to see.

thanks Dandymax! i think on street tires i can get a little faster 60' time but i'm going to need a new clutch. my ebay crap won't last a few more times with slipping the clutch off the line. i don't think i will be able to use nitrous until i can get a new clutch though.

thanks Neal for looking at that! i'm thinking i'll go with the Exedy stage 2 clutch. i talked with the company that makes exedy and told them i'll be running nitrous, bolt on's and hopefully slicks and they said it would be just fine. so hopefully this summer i should be in the 1.xxx 60' group!

edit: now i'm very confused. the prices are pretty close. i was just looking at the ACT clutches and Exedy stage 2 clutch. ACT is a 4 or 6 puck clutch for about $400. the Exedy is a three puck clutch for about $375....does any one know which is better for the money? i have tried to search but couldn't get a definate answer....thanks for the help!

i just found the torque specs for the Exedy stage 2 clutch...its only rated at 262 Ft-lbs. looks like i'm going to need to look into ACT.....

how large of a shot are you planning on running? I'm really surprised that the stage 2 exedy is only rated at 262ft-lb. that's 100ft-lb weaker than the lowest level ACT which has an organic full face street disk. exedy must stick with a super soft pressure plate.

right now i'm planning on 75- 100 shot of nitrous. but this summer i will start a 3.5 build with cams and i'll be shooting nitrous to that engine also. then hopefully next summer i will supercharge the 3.5. so i wanted to get a clutch that would be good for my nitrous shot now and also for my 3.5 build which will hopefully be ready by December.

Dandymax....it said stage 1 is 231 and stage 2 is 263....miss-print maybe

here's the website to the torque rating for Exedy stage two
http://www.importrp.com/product.php?...&cat=64&page=1

supposedly the ACT 6 puck clutch was rated at 463 ft-lbs
