Question regarding rim width and tire size

Hey guys, we all know that a 7 inch wide rim would look nice and flush with 215's and 7.5 inch wide with 225's, etc etc...

We all know that we can stuff wider tires onto a narrower rim...like 235's on a 7 wide and 245-255 on 8 wide rim

So my question is...what negative effects can be felt versus these two setups

8 wide with 245mm
8.5 wide with 245mm

they are both the same tire...just different width rims....what are the performance differences if any?

If you notice anything, you will notice more response with the wider rim, possibly a slightly harsher ride. The sidewalls will be more square and the tire will be less "bubbly."

An 8 is just on the small side for a 245, so you might get a little more patch on the ground under cornering forces if you go for the 8.5... I'd go for the wider wheel.

are the differences pretty minimal? I'm not too concerned with how it looks...I was just wondering if it will effect performance...not around the auto-x course...but spirited street driving

what it do mr ****s 95? you got those 10 wides with 235's on there yet

If you are pretty perceptive you might be able to tell if you drove 'em back-to-back... what's keeping you from getting the wider ones?

nothing is holding me back...I just want to see my options when I purchase rims in the future...just in case if the rims I want don't come in that width & offset

Personally I'd never put a 245 on an 8" wide. 8.5+ for 245, 225 or 235 for an 8.

werd. i'd do 215 on an 8" for Morpheus's sake. oh wait... but yeah 235's on an 8" would be most ideal.

I tried both 18x8 and 18x8.5 (what I have now) with the same 245/40/18 tires. I didn't feel too much of a difference to be honest...
