Strange electrical fault

Please help if you can ...

Car won't start. Ignition ON: dashboard lights come on, ignition light on, the radio works. Turning the starter, the radio goes off, no click heard.
Thinking it to be a dead battery I brought my other Max over and used the jump leads. Same result.

It seems the battery is NOT dead because the main headlights work fine. The indicator lamps also work.
However, the power windows are dead, the auto door locks don't work, and the sunroof motor doesn't work.

Fusible link on the Battery+ terminal appears to be intact.

Any ideas, please guys? The car is stuck in a very inconvenient location.
Thanks!

Igniton switch maybe??? did you check all the fuses?
you could try to turn the ign on and jump it at the starter...you know cross the terminals on the silonoid ...just to get it to a better location

Thanks for your note. I checked all the fuses inside the car and then the fusebox inside the engine bay. I found that some ***hole must have made a crummy repair, the 140A battery fuse in the centre of that box had a lump of solder stuck to where the 'metal clip' can usually be seen in the middle of the fusible link. I touched it and the lump of solder came away in my fingers. I was able to get the car back home but I need to replace that 140A fuse. I tried and tried pulling it out, but it wouldn't budge. It DOES pull out, right? I don't want to bust something up by using too much force. I suppose this is a dealer part?

It should pull out, it might be like siezed in there but you should be able to work it out of there. have you looked for anything that might have caused it to blow?

The one in the center here: http://pics.livejournal.com/boredmder/pic/000832qa/g23 ?

It should just pull out, yes.

Chances are the only place you'll find that is the dealer. Personally, everytime I go to the junkyard I grab some of the odd style fuses, like the ignition switch and ABS fuses...just in case. Try any local junkyards.

Yeah that's it, the FL140A. Unfortunately there are practically no Maximas to be found in the local scrapyards. I'll try the dealer tomorrow. My guess is the previous owner damaged the fuse somehow, and bodged it by soldering it up, but it was a 'dry joint' and the blob of solder just fell off.

that fuse does NOT just pull out like a normal fuse. to remove it you must remove the fuse box, take off the bottom half of the box and you'll see the 2 screws holding it in. the fuse cost like $20 at the dealership I went thru this headache before -_-

That's very kind, thanks. I'll check on the dealers this afternoon. I've just checked the next post, what a bummer having to take the box out, but just as well I hadn't already started heaving away at the fuze like a dentist trying to extract a bad molar . . .

Many thanks for the info! I would probably have busted it up by trying to pull it out with a pair of long nosed pliers.
