can't adjust rear height on coilovers

did some maintenance (i know so surprising), tuning and raised it a bit up front yest on the ksports cough, cough...so i figured i do the rears the next day.

i wanted to lower the rear but i couldn't loosen the lower, i guess you could say the long orange collar. therefore, i couldn't actually adjust the height. whenever i tried to loosen it, the whole shaft would turn, which does nothing for the height adjustment. what is the best solution you think to loosen that collar?

aren't you suppose to use one wrench to hold it in the opposite direction while using the other to loosen it, so the shaft wouldn't turn?

i don't know what your talking about. are you referring the two collars near the spring perch?
theres only 1 lower strut bolt and 1 collar screw that holds the lower section.
i loosened the bolt and the collar but the piece between the collar and the bolt won't move.

flat head screwdriver, a hammer and some WD 40......or you may have to take off the whole assembly....

oh I thought you couldnt loosen the collar....

My guess is take off the strut and spray some WD 40 into it and try and get it loose that way....off the car it should be easy.

my vise grips arn't deep enough to grip around the shaft. plus i don't want something w/ metal teeth that'll imprint it on the thread.

maybe i'll look at a hardware store for something with a plastic or rubber grip

Ahah, I called them vice grips. doh. I wrap the inside of mine with a rag and they never leave a mark. Although I wouldn't trust them working on a threaded surface, like you said...

I know I saw a tool at Sears once made for working on a threaded surface (had a rubber jaw) but it was rather small. Take a look around.

yeh i just called ksport and they said sometimes the aluminum protective additive or whatever thats applied on the shaft tends to wear off, thus causing it to lock up.

sigh...i just spent 2 hours trying to loosen that stupid thing and didn't end up lowering anything. totally a PITA

hahaha no, I tried to lower it, lowered it, put the tire back on, found out it wasn't low enough and I had to rinse and repeat... until I found out you can measure the distance from the collar to the end of the threads...hehe ooops

how were you trying to turn it? i assume its frozen but just to make sure: you used the wrench on the spring perch with the upper locking ring in place and the lower locking ring loose right? not sure how ksports are put together but if they are frozen the shaft should not move at all rather than turning the whole assembly.
