Trouble with A/C Unit

My A/C, for some reason, is not working on 1-2-or 3 settings, only 4, the most powerful setting. Why is this occuring? I'd like to know soon, having a bad A/C in a Florida summer is no picnic

Somewhere in the stickies it tells you how to replace your fan resistor. You could probably do it on your own if 4 is still working and you would see what resistor you would need since it isn't fried.

You should be able to find it on the passenger side right under glove compartment. I think there is only 2 screws holding it in place. After you take it out, the solder joint might look rusty so just re-solder that piece and you're good to go. I've done it a couple of times already.

Here is a picture of the resistor.

true...how many times have you had to do it?
I come from working on customers cars and its just a lot less hassle to replace it then to have them keep comming back, and on my own car ...well the samething goes I guess.
however if you dont mind ,there is nothing wrong with a little solder .it remindes me of a fix on the 1st generation 300z digital dash control, it cost like 300 bucks ,but take it apart and re-solder the broken factory cold solder , and bingo no more problems.

There is only one solder joint as you can see on the picture. Remove it and replace with new solder and you're good to go. If you want to spend the $30-40 dollars for something that takes 5 minutes to do by all means go ahead. I'm a cheap **** and like fixing stuff myself. But that's me.

Goodluck!!!

This forum rox! I had the exact symptom, found this fix, and the fan control works fine now. I already had soldering stuff, so the fix was free. If it becomes problematic, I'll buy a new resistor, but for about 30 mins. time (including an unnecessary removal and replacement of the glove box), I gots fan settings again.

This thread is a lot better help
