newbie w/ no car audio knowledge...
Hey everyone,
Here for suggestions/recommendations.
I know nothing about car audio... but I would like to add some subs to my bose system ('08 maxima).
and the "adding subs to your stock bose system" thread is dead.
I'm not really sure what direction to go (self powered sub, 1 10", 2 10"s, bass tube, etc). I want something that hits... but I don't need anything you can hear from blocks away. I've been reading a bunch of threads... but its all a little overwhelming... lol. Oh and I have no clue about amps either.
so what would you tell someone who wants to add some bass to his system but has no idea where to start??

nobody can give a recommendation?
Must be too early in the morning
.
This is how the spending spree begins. First you just want bass, then your bass becomes overwhelming and you want to upgrade inside speakers. Its an ongoing circle. Only/Best recommendation I can give is do it right the first time. Avoid continuous upgrades that end up being more money and more trouble in the long run.
I think 1 12" sub would be fine for you. You have tons of options, its just a matter of budget and sound preference. However, dont be surprised if you catch yourself changing a few other things. Stock system normally cant hold up to an aftermarket sub (sub becomes overwhelming and you feel you dont get enough vocals from system) but its a matter of how you use it. Others will give better input and their experience with stock system and extra sub. I never tried it but it does create interest to change other things to make your listening much more appealing.
Whatever amp you get (you'll need a 1 or 2 channel mono amp), make sure its something you'll be happy with years later. I recommend listening to a few setups and giving yourself a reality check of what you may do in the future. Unless budget prevents, you will see yourself asking for more in other areas of the audio world.

. So its an investment and expensive but Im sure its well worth it when Im bumping my system.
yeah man.. Don told you what I did heh? Yeah I hung out there way to told long and when I left all my credit cards where maxed out ...lol j.k. but yeah Don schooled me a lot about audio so I just decided go with the best of the best and be done with it. Besides I deserve it.. 11 years with same broken down Bose system. lol
Im not sure if you can add an Infinity Basslink to a bose system, buts its the best compact self powered sub of its type(back in 2002 anyway when i got mine) for getting accurate deep bass. its a 200 watt class d amp with a 10" sub with a radiator. Its not a punchy hear it your car 2 blocks down the road type of bass. if thats what your looking for then its not for you. It shouldnt overpower your bose system. if you want a good compliment to your stock system, it should be perfect and in a good price range. u can get one for about 200-250.. that have a dual sub version for a little more money.

looks like they now offer a 250watt square basslink too. i think square subs will give you more thump, but i think square subs are less accurate because of the shape of the sub.
