timing belt alignment
I put in my new water pump but in the process of taking the crank pully off I jumped time on the timing belt. Now I have two problems.
1. with the belt off I can't get both cam sprockets to line up to their marks, I suspect its due to the crank shaft not being in the correct position
2. which leads me to this, it the crank it at TDC and it matches the mark for alignment, then it shouldn't need anything else right?
I mean whether the stroke is compression, gas, exhaust etc. depends on the head and cam shaft right?
I am also assuming I can tell when the ignition sequence is by where the rotor is under the distributor cap, right?
The manual says that the crank should be on TDC, on the compression stroke does that mean the spark should be firing? if not which piston should be firing?
Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to blow my motor.

The VG30E has a timing belt. That's the engine in the second gen cars and most of the 3rd gens. The VE30DE and the all the new engines have timing chains. These engines were employed on all of the 92+ SE's and all of the fourth gens. The fifth gens VQ30DE also uses a timing chain.
