How to wire JL15W6 to 2 channel amp...need advice plz!!
okay, well i've got a punch 800a2 amp...a two channel amp and a JL15W6 sub. what's the best way to hook this up.....without having to worry about frying the amp or blowing the sub. should i just use the positive and negative from one channel or take the positive from one channel and the negative from another channel (this is called bridging right???). I'm sure this post would have been only one line if i knew all the car stereo lingo, but i don't.
do exactly as you described in your post, i believe the punch 800 is a bridgeable amp. In order to bridge the two channels, you need to connect the positive lead of one channel to the positive lead of the sub, and connect the negative lead from the second channel to the negative speaker terminal. Basically, just do what you originally asked, because you were right.
There is one slight problem with this amplifier / sub setup. Firstly a W6 woofer is a DVC 6 Ohm sub. So you can't' wire it in a normal bridged setup as you described. You would have to either parallel the coils and get a 3 Ohm load or series the coils for a 12 Ohm load for the amp to work in bridged mode. Now RF doesn't recommend running their stereo amps at less than 4 Ohms in a bridged load so at 3 Ohms the amp will prolly try to pull mure current and get hotter. It should be ok but it might not take too much pounding as may overheat on you.
Another way is to wire the amp/sub in normal stereo this should give you a safer load but your output will be much reduced....
W6 woofers are meant to be run in triplets....that way they can be configured as a 4 Ohm final load.
