First time at the track in the 6 speed...

I ran a bunch of times, but here are my best ones. I was so happy to make it into the 14's! My first run, I ran like a 15.7... then a ran a 15.5... then a 15.1... then I broke into the 14's! Here are my best times:

That sh*t was fun man! But as you can see, I need to work on my launching.. the best 60' I got was 2.39. Mostly, I was revving up to 2k then letting her rip from there.. but it's hard to keep it at 2k because I don't have a steady foot.. I ended up revving too high, then gotta bring it back down, then back up again, and before I know it the light is green and gotta go! one time I had such bad wheel hop that my windshield wipers just started going off.. lol.. when I ran the 14.97, I had a bad 60', but my shifting was on POINT.. quick and smooth with no jerk.. that helped my time alot.. If get my launches down, I'd be unstoppable! any tips?

Not bad for your first time -- try a 2400rpm quick slip of the clutch and feed the throttle-in as you are releasing the clutch, all in one smooth motion. Also i usually let some air out of the front tires, depending on the track conditions - it differs each time you go out. Also, dunno what elevation you're at -- the trap looks a little on the low side -- may need to make sure everything is in good shape (clean filter, good plugs, etc..) I know not every car/track is the same - but mine was trapping 97-98mph stock.
Like you're saying though, if you drop that 60ft down to the 2.1-2.2 range you'll be pulling much better ET's in the mid 14's range.

Good stuff.
Maybe Adjust the shocks to full stiff next time
And keep working on your 60'
Who else went?

well i just cleaned my intake filter that same day, and had less than 1000 miles on my synthetic oil.. spark plugs are about 60k old though.. i'll try that launching technique too... it's just hard, cause you don't get much prep time to make sure you're at the right rpms, and get ready.. it was kinda rushed.. so much pressure! lol.. is it me, or does the car not seem to pull as hard in 1st gear on the track as it does on the street?

i actually did adjust them to 5 that day to help my launches... and that actually made that bumpsteer problem worse.. adjusted them back to 2 today, and the bumpsteer is still there it was just me and devin that went though... we saw some dude with a turbo 240 that was running low-mid 13s, and we gave him a TAON card

60k on the plugs = time for some new ones!
Dont worry about getting a good reaction time for now -- make a few relaxed runs without worrying about beating the guy next to you. With the pressure off you can focus on getting everything right on your launch and once you master that, start working on your reaction times, and putting it all together, etc..
If you're worried about the wheel hop, you can score some polyurethane motor mounts fairly cheap that help quite a bit. Also some say it helps to let the car cool down a bit to get rid of the heatsoak. My last time out, I was actually running some of my best times when I was hot-lapping the car.
As for the car not pulling as hard in 1st, that could be due to the sticky surface causing more friction, but I know what you mean.

yeah, its weird.. you would think it would pull harder with a sticky surface, you know? but yeah, i wasn't worried too much about beating the person next to me.. i was pretty much just focused on getting a good launch and shifting well.. i turned the car off in between runs and opened my hood.. is that good enough for a cool down? the only thing is with the motor mounts, i don't like that vibration ALL the time.. so i'll just deal with the wheel hop, cause i drive regularly more than i go to the track, and i would be annoyed with that mod more often than i would be satisfied

I have the ES solid mounts and it had a slight vibration for the first week or so -- mostly @ idle w/ the A/C on, but after the 'wear-in', like the poster above pointed out, it settles down and u don't really notice anything after that. People that sit in my car can't even tell I have the solid mounts now.

do you guys notice any difference in shifting, and the smoothness of the clutch engagement with the ES motor mounts?

i have the ES bushings, 6psd here also. that wheel hop went away and the car stayed PLANTED. plus i chirped through 2nd gear like i was coming outta 1st lol my 1st time i ran what you ran, but the 2nd time i went back i ran a 14.5. its all in the launches like planoSER stated. i think we should be doing like low 14's. i have 18s on so iduno if that matters much. i let the air out to 25 PSI and hooked better than the 1st time i went

what did i say baby!

gettin better fellas still shootin for low 14s though.. i need to drop my 60' even more.. i think i've developed a pretty good technique.. i was able to hold it a 2.5k at the line this time.. i wheel hopped a bit, but still pulled off a decent 60'.. cold use improvement though.. and instead of flooring in in 1st gear, like i used to.. i decided to try like gradually pushing down on the pedal... i thought i would be able to floor it in 1st gear, and just pull like i can on the street, but it ends up being slower on the track... anybody know why?

also, does anybody else have trouble keeping their car straight on the track? like it kinda moves to the left or the right through 1st and 2nd?

Is the water box set up?

It could be people who drive through the water box then do the burnout and tread water onto the staging lane. I know that was a problem when the pro cars run at the same time as the street legal class sometimes.

Try go to the track after some of the pro-stock cars have run. Should be a nice coating of track bite on the ground so you might be able to pull off some good 60 foots.

yeah, man they spray water down for EVERY freakin car that rolls through... and it sucks because those of us who have street tires, and prefer not to burn our clutch/tires doing a burnout are forced to have water on our tires

Very good times man. I am also trying to cut down my 60ft times. Are those all your mods in your sig?

And YES, ES mounts are probably some of the best bang for the buck mod and understated mod ive ever installed.

14.6 is alot more respectable bro. Just keep practicing, because that car can easily hit a low 14 and with some really good driving and maybe a mod or two more you'll be running in the high 13's!!

100+ nearly every day, not much you can do about that.

When I used to bracket race in Arizona, it would be 105 when we started and 85 when we finished and I'd knock off around 2 tenths during the evening.

Family stuff last night. Sunday night too (niece's birthday) but hopefully that is it for this month. If I could ever get done before 5 PM on a Friday, I can head down to Ennis and run mine.

My best is 14.7 @ 95.01 mph. With just a Injen CAI. Car is an 03 6MT. I ran a few 14.9's stock. In the Florida heat it makes it hard. I am hoping after the exhaust I can do 14.4-14.5 and with the headers around 14.0. Good runs everybody! You only get better with practice.
