you can get it cheap from a junk yard and it's a good thing to have since it shields the inside from dirt, rocks etc.

Assuming you're talking about the mudguards/rock guards, consider it an omen. Now go rip off the rest....seriously. They're hideous.

I think you just answered your own question. Why would you open up the possibility of ur fog/side marker light wiring and alla that getting wet/muddy/grimy? You can get another one from a junk yard or buy it new from partstrain for $28. If you'd rather buy it new, it's at the bottom of the page:

I found out how important the shields are when my passenger side undercarriage shields got ripped off. Drove the car during a heavy storm and now my A/C compressor sounds like crap when the AC is turned off. It still works though, so I just left it alone and dealt with the noise

Both my left and right sides have flopped down and been dragged across asphalt and eventually ripped off of my '96 Maxima, years ago. I never replaced them.

It would be real crappy if a stone busted your oil filter although they are splash gaurds and not smash gaurds.

A stone taking out an oil filter? I couldn't imagine that.

The stock splash guard doesn't cover the oil filter, does it?
