Just changed engine and trans, car does not crank?

As stated I have replaced my engine and transmission on my 96 auto maxima gle. With one from an 99 I30. I have hooked everything up and it does not seem to crank. It has clicks, and little swooches, but never cranks over. Might it be the Crankshaft position sensor by the front engine mount? It seems like there is a gap there now where the sensor goes into the transmission, and where it is bolted on the engine. Also the car has no axles in it yet, as I was just trying to see if it would work, before I put it "all" back together. The car is getting fuel though since i removed the line and it leaked right out! Might it be because the axles are out? A safety feature? Please help me out. I am so tired in trying to figuire out what it is. THANKS

Im not sure but I have some insight on the crankshaft position sensors. If your sensor is plugged in, your engine should atleast crank (but not start), even if the sensor is dangling by the wire. If the sensor is not plugged in at all, your engine wont crank at all tho.

I know cause I just had some CKPS sensor problems...

Im not sure about the axles, I think it would work cause how does the car know they are in or out? But if your axles are out that means you must have no fluid in the trans which would mean it would be bad to start.

Did you bolt your transmission to the new engine? If so I would bet money you didn't have the torque converter locked into the transmission and it's binding. Try and stick a socket on the crank pulley and turn the engine over by hand.

yes i did. bolt my engine onto the transmission. I placed the torque converter into the transmission, made sure it is seated, then mounted it onto the engine, and bolted the torque converter to the flywheel. I had to replace the crank pulley, so it has been cranked a couple of times already. Why would this make the engine not crank though? thanks for the fast replys!

why would starting my motor have harm on the transmission if I will not be driving the car around? The sensor is plugged in. Are you sure if it is dangling it will still crank? I don't know, maybe someway the trans can tell if it has axles in it or not and prevent an accidental start.

If you can crank the engine over by hand then you have an electrical problem with the starting system. You sure the starter is good? The shifter cable isn't caught on anything not allowing the car to be in park? Try starting it in every gear.

well i am going to bed right now, the starter worked fine before on the old motor, i have another one laying around though. The car might be in a different gear though, since i think it might have touched the lever thingy on install. How do I know where park on it is. I already tried putting the car in neutral before, same thing. Your saying I should try all the gears? I will do that. I will continue this tomorrow morning, I am beat right now. THANKS GUYS for all the help so far, I really appreciate it. It has been hell trying to work on the car everyday after work, for the past week. When I finally think i am good to go, I can;t start the damn thing lol.

Just got the car started!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks maxima JOE. It was started in reverse, so I just went into the engine bay and hammered down on the trans shifter linkage a little, and it was set in park. Must have moved when I was raising the engine in. Engine runs good, no immediate codes. Only problem is the radiator fans are not turning, which causes the raidator cap to start steaming after like 5 minutes. They are plugged in, but for some reason are not moving.

I did put in a new koyo radiator and thermostat. Was all simple, unless I missed something obvious for the fans to not be working.
