how many wires are in what o2 sensors? im looking to change all of them i got a p0140 code today

and does any one have a diagram where the o2 sensors are connected in the exaust?

 

This is for cali spec cars, but it will give you an idea of where to look. Just follow the relevant wires/harnesses to your y-pipe. IIRC, the front sensors are 3 wires, 95 rear sensor (in cat) is also 3. 96 (also in cat) is 4, and 97+ (behind cat) has 4 wires as well. Search up on that to confirm it though.

there are 3 sensors. 4 only if your car is cali spec. don't have a 95? then your rear sensor should be a 4 wire. to be 100% certain, go under there and take a look at it.

 

i got a 98 SE i just ordered two 3 wire universal sensors and one 4 wire

So, you know you will need to rewire them to your harness correct?

 

i just have to cut the original o2 sensor wires put the new ones in and soder ( spelling) the tips and put some electical tape over them i dont need to rewire like the 3 feet of wire that conect the sensors rite?

I replaced my sensors the other day and had to reinstall the one after the cat a while back after a new exhaust install, for some reason those wires did not solder. The sensors I got off ebay and they had the wire crimps for installation.

They are usually around $20 cheaper and come with positaps so no soldering needed and are still easy to install.

 

02 sensors don't get bad often. I like the plug and play because you never know what your old o2 sensor harness looks like. What if that was the main thing that was failing. Anyway, it is significantly cheaper, but i still would have recommended the plug and play.

 

If it was the harness that was failing, chop it off and posit-lock the body's wires w/the universal o2's wires. Most people don't even own their car long enuf to change the O2 anyways. If the O2 was damaged due to other issues, well, there's other issues to take care of.

If people got the money, get the plug-n-play. Comes down to that.

I wish I'd had this diagram a few days ago...I accidentally replaced my Front Left instead of the Front Right indicated by my 0503/P0130 code

It took me about 3 hours, too lol...and it was a tremendous pain in the ***.

That said, I have a question. My engine light came back on tonight, and gave me the same 0503/P0130 and 0706/P0170 codes I got almost two weeks ago. Since it's such a huge pain in the *** to get at the Front Left O2 sensor, and I really don't want to re-replace that one so that I can move the new one to the correct place, would it be at all reasonable to try putting the former Front Left in place of the Front Right, until I have the cash to pick up a new one? I haven't gotten any fault codes indicating a problem with this one, so unless I managed to damage it somehow while removing it, I should be OK for a while, right?

I have to agree, though, my front o2 sensors were somewhat of a PITA with the stock y pipe. After some finagling, cursing, and rust in the eyes, I managed to get it done though

Definitely take the former F/left one and put it in the F/right. Reset the ECU when you're done, drive around and see what happens over a couple days or so. You have nothing to lose and it should give you some time to get the cash together for a new one.

I have a 95 GLE 3 sensors as shown. Only front ones effect operation, mileage of vehicle. Front 2 are interchangeable, back is not. I paid 135 for each front sensor and 30 for an O2 socket (definitely worth the money). I had purchased a sensor off e bay for 67 bucks...it didn't last very long before throwing a code. It had factory ends, not the crimping type. Front left is more difficult to get at because of the shielding underneath that needs to be removed to gain access. The other 2 are easy peasy.
