I chose to go to KCIR twice this week, 'cause the weather would be great and I had new slicks to test out. I made three passes each evening, but only captured one PLX log on the 17th(the best) and the last two on the 19th (including the best).

Suddenly the mid-12s were common. Unreal.

By 8:30PM, weather had gotten very cold and humid - fog banks rolled in and everything was wet - including the track.

 

I went back again on Friday night - the weather was better, and no evening fog - just a beautiful evening.

Three runs, all with 75-shot plus 75-shot applied in first gear and all the way down. There was a 45-minute clean-up-the-oil delay between the 2nd and 3rd pass.

The two hot 15lb bottles seem to keep pressure up as I hoped. They do suck about 40 amps when the heaters are on, so I've been warming them up with a battery charger attached what with these cold mornings...

If you figure that a pair of nitrous solenoids draw at least 20 amps per pair (40 amps combined) and the bottle heaters draw another 40 amps while re-heating, I might need a Harbor Freight generator in the trunk just to get to the far end of the track.....

 

How you been doin' with the world-famous RMT ??? Turbos scare me.

 

Lol Raxles wont make a difference since their axle shafts are exactly the same as this one. Have no worry unles you are dumping the clutch @ 5500+rpms (on huge sticky tires)

 

Then it's just as well that I don't have a clutch, eh? Still, all the WHP goes through those two shafts.... ???

 

Congrats, grey! Keep on doing what you do best (innovating!) and I think you'll see 11's with just a bit more persistence. Are you planning to run any larger shots than the combined 150-shot you're running now? Either way, very impressive.

Thank you sir - it's been a while coming, hasn't it? I don't have much time to spend on the car, and I like to test everything, and that takes more time...

I've been working through the details of the PLX logs, and when I saw I was kissing fuel-cut in 3rd gear at the traps, that's when I decided to try the 24.5" M&Hs - now I've got an extra 300 RPM in the traps and I can drive the car to the same performance as on the 23" M&Hs...

I have lots more nitrous available - dual heated 15lb bottles pumping through a -6AN fire hose - I can easily spray a real 300-shot through the two stages, and when I decide what to do with the third stage, I could add another 150-shot to the mix. Of course the motor would blow. I would need another Walbro 255lph pump and hi-capacity fuel filter for sure, not to mention a basket to put all the motor parts into...

I do intend to raise power to 405 WHP next, then to 430 WHP with a combined 200-shot. Maybe it will live - maybe not. But yes, there's more.


The season has gone into November, and KCIR will open on the weekend if the temp is over 40*F and it's sunny.

Well I have been just taking it easy on the car, occasionally playing around with people on the street but no racing. I have mostly been having fun with the shifting around the city with the ss4v, its fun. I still havent swapped out the engine for another 3.0, havnt had time(still driving around with leaky HG). but as soon as that engine is in, its party time!! im coming after you and jime!!!!!

Yup - it's was SSIMed by 350Z. Got one heck of a burst of power starting at 4500 up to fuel-cut. Getting the A/F set to about 12:1 helped a bunch - before, it was too rich, I think. Tune-by-tape works - still no piggyback...

 

I dunno - I know a guy with an AWD Eagle Talon, 2.4L custom motor, 35 psi of boost, and 605 WHP on a AWD dyno (kinda rare). He seems happy with his Talon...

 

I sucked it up and set tire pressures to 11psi for the last two runs. The first was nothing special, but after an engine blew and the track was closed for 45 minutes and cleaned/prepped, the last pass really hooked up well.

What do you think about the slick slippage thing? I never measured it before, but the K.C. turbo Honda guys insist I need to screw my slicks to the wheels. Of course they run 6-7 psi, so I can see why they pop tires off wheels, so I'm kinda undecided on rim screws.

I'm going to HPT locally on Thursday, so I'll make a baseline pass with 11psi and a 75-shot + 75-shot, see what happens, then maybe raise the shots to 75 + 100 for an estimated 405 WHP. Baby steps for now....

 

Instead of 75+100, can you try 100+75?

 

I haven't had any slippage even as low as 9 psi. However the guy that puts my slicks on is an old V8 guy and doesn't put any goop on the tires to mount because of that. What you can do is let the air out and try and break the bead, should be fairly easy with the slicks and clean the bead area with something that has no lubrication.

 

I guess I could, but why? I get a lot of tire spin as it stands...

 

The rims are new, the tires are newer, but the tire mounter used some spray stuff when mounting the tires. You think maybe the spray is a lubricant? that makes sense, I guess... clean everything with water and re-mount the tires, then?

Any opinions on rim screws? I hate the idea, but if the tires keep slipping, I guess that's next. Thanks for the input. "it's always something".

 

I thought that you had traction with the 75 shot. Then never mind.

 

I see what you were thinking - but I have been launching with the 75-shot and rolling into the 2nd 75-shot stage very quickly - just not at the same time. Observers - and the PLX graph - see lots of spin at launch, and I'm not sure that's a good thing.

Of course, I could just try it both ways - duh. I'm really not sure what to do about traction with this setup. I'm still experimenting.

Maybe I should install the belly pan - at least I can understand that project.

Yeah, I did that already - Illuminas are set to 5, lots of rubber blocks tiewrapped into the springs front and rear. Traction bars, swaybar, Hawk HPS pads to hold the 2800 Edge TC at the line, and VHT to wipe on the slicks.

One thing I never did was figure out how to keep the front from lifting a bit when launching - Dandy and Aaron had a trick or two, I hear. Maybe i could launch going in reverse ???

 

Try those huge zip ties for the front coils. Just messing with you.

This is true, Aaron has always been successful with the big zip ties, that what he always advices me to do.

I took tomorrow off, and I got some 12-gauge wire tonight for boosting up the fuel pump - maybe I can get that installed tomorrow AM. Track time starts at 5PM tomorrow
