Jime and I at the track....

Well, Jime and I went to the track yesterday to roll the dice... I suck at driving RWD and went 14.1 @ 99mph on Street 19" tires (2.1 60ft hahaha) I only did 4 passes cause really I was there to watch my Dad run his car... Here are a few pics from the day.

I will leave it up to him should he decide to post up a time slip or not... We are returning to the track next weekend for another race so maybe after that?

Either way here are some teaser pics...

A few random shots from through the day...

I always do a couple of short tire cleaning burn outs, then pull up to the line, and launch at about 3,500 rpms, slipping the clutch very quickly, while getting into the gas. Doing that I have been able to get fairly consistent 1.9 60's with my 07 Z. I could even launch my 04 Z at 5K rpms, since it had a different slave cylinder deisgn, which allowed for higher revs while launching. I also ran consistent 1.9's when the 04 was stock.

Give that a shot next time, and see if it helps your 60'. After that, work on quick shifting right at redline, and your times should come down well into the mid to high 13's.

Im gonna get some different wheels for starters, 19" (275/40/19) are not optimal drag tires lol.. Thanks for the tips, I'll try that for sure. Just like anything else, practice makes perfect.

Yeah my 19's slowed me down exactly 1/10 all last year. Once I put my stock wheels back one I was running consistant 13.8's.

Looks like Jim was whippin up on those domestics as usual. I love it.

Running 100 + 100, progressive, 1st gear lockout on 2nd stage. Had a hard time getting the controller to react on launch it wants to delay so I am removing the first stage from the controller and just have it on a WOT switch. My slicks are also shot so launching is pretty difficult, best 60' was a 1.85, I did better on the 50 shot a couple of weeks ago. Will try the M/T 22's and my M&H streets this weekend.

were you pulsing 1st or 100% out the out

notice with mine that anything under 30% felt like it was not spraying
and changing the pulse frequency did not help either

btw great times, I can not wait to get back to the track

I was coming out at 50% and ramping to 100% at 4500 in the 1st stage. Pretty scary going through the traps at over 120 mph, takes a little longer to slow down.

Mmmmmm you ran 11.8 with a 50 and 11.6 with a 200 something tells me your holding back big time

it's like your conditioning us slowly so we do not go into shock when you make the real pass

That was our local track announcer who also takes pics etc. He was walking through the lanes and stopped to talk to me. I told him the fastest Maxima was 11.40 and he assumed I mean at this track. He isn't much of an import fan, always makes fun of them like calling it a 350ZX or a Nissan NSX etc, an old v8 guy. He has sort of warmed up to me now because I have won a few races against some pretty tough competition.

Sweet! Nice job Jim (and Jim), car looks good and way to represent the Max! Some really nice pics you got there too.. must be a decent camera.

As for the 120 mph trap and slowing down etc.. time for a brake upgrade maybe? What's your brake setup again?

Couple of my F-Body friends were up there this weekend and mentioned they saw your car, I asked what time you'd run but they didn't see the pass I guess.

And yeah there's definitely more in that Z also..

Ya Jimmy has a great SLR and he knows how to use it.

I don't have any problem slowing down, I am just not used to having to brake at all the engine brake is normally sufficient up to 110 or so. I am now using the e-brake because of the higher speed because it doesn't heat up the front wheels which heats up the slicks more.

My brakes are 300ZX rotors with Infinity dual piston calipers and HPS pads.

I am in the process of revamping my nitrous setup because of the inherent delay in the progressive unit. Going to use a stock single stage out of the hole to improve my 60', could only get a 1.83 best out of the progressive setup. Then use the controller to ramp in the 2nd stage a little further into 1st gear when traction is established. Didn't realize there was a delay until I got to the track because I can't launch on my test strip at home because of traction so I had no idea how it was going to react.

Just found out that the delay isn't there if I use time base vs rpm but I really don't want to do that so I will just carry on and make the 1st stage a fixed jet and then install the largest jet that will hold traction out of the hole and go progressive from there.

This weekend will be my last race of the year and I don't plan on going again until spring.

Surprised to read that you're using 300zx rotors with their significantly higher weight. Interesting.

Actually I put those brakes on to try and hold the car while brake-torquing because the stock brakes wouldn't.. After the work of changing them to dual caliper etc they still won't begin to hold the power so I made my launch control to hold it at around 17% throttle until I release the line-loc then it instantly goes to 100%. Makes for good r/t's.

Maybe I should revert to stock brakes again, I didn't realize they were that much lighter.

Jime, I was wondering if you have ever had lean spikes when the nitrous 1st hits

and how long or if you shorten the fuel line from the soleniod to the jet

I'd definitely look into it. I never weighed them, but I just put 300zx rotors on my max a couple months ago and I've got to think they're a good 4-5lbs heavier per side than stock rotors are. Of course it's not as detrimental as adding 5lbs on a longer arm like at the tire or outside of the wheel, but still definitely not helpful and I'd think you'd see modest gains from reverting, if you can keep the car launching like you want it still. Obviously you'll need to experiment but I wouldn't think that rotor thickness would have any effect on your ability to hold the car still. Seems like just a function of the clamping force of your calipers and coefficient of static friction of your pads.

I'm assuming you've considered incorporating your rear brakes into your line-lock/launch control mechanism?

Obviously I'm not telling you anything you don't already know but I'm curious as to what you've tried.
