Drove a 6 speed Max tonight
I know alot of this has been said before but here goes again.
I currently drive a 5 speed Maxima. I loved everything about the 2K2 except the 6 speed shift action.
The 3.5L was noticably stronger than the 3.0L and made merging onto the Highway easier( and more fun ).
I noticed that it took more force to engage the 6 speed gears when driving. The reverse gear was the worst requiring substantially more force to engage reverse. The 5 speed manual shifts into gear with ease. To engage reverse, you must pull up on a ring which is just below the shift ****. That's a good thing because 6th gear is in the lower right position right next to reverse. Cruising on the Highway in 6th gear at 65 mph, the engine was running near 2000 RPM. In 5th gear, the RPMs were aroung 2800 at the same speed, which is the same as the 2K1's. This makes 6th gear act like a super overdrive gear. Has anyone else noticed the same thing about the shift action of the 6 speed?
I loved the HID's. I parked my 2K1 next to the 2K2 and the HID's were whiter and brighter than my 2K1 lights.
I liked the sunroof multi-position slider control. The sunroof could be opened 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and fully.
The MPG computer is a nice addition.
I'm not sure but the turning radius seemed tighter than the 2K1. I could be wrong though.
All in all, the 2K2 is a great package. Of course, the salesman mentioned that the 2K3 Maxima will be larger and will probably have a V8 ( yep, the same old rumor ). The price will probably be running in the mid 30's for a 2K3.
