Music Box & Random Play
Music Box & Random Play
I have the SV with Tech and Premium and love the Music Box... according to the manual I should be able to "random" play my music box, but it doesn't come up on the display as an option.
Am I missing something?
Thx!!

I decided to buy a ipod for my car, I wasnt about to burn multiple cd's to copy to box. The interface is excellent.
Thanks Joeynym... ripping them was easy as they burned at 5x the rate that they usuall play. Now I have ton of music, but can only listen by album... I have never purchased an ipod for myself, although both my wife and daughter have one.
It's wierd because the manual leads me to believe you can.

When you have the music box on, hit the button that you would normally use to get a CD to play random. It works the same way. I love it because it will be a seamless transition of music.
As fa as the burning part, if it was lets say 5-10 albums ok, but to burn 40-50 discs just to put them on the hard drive then probably chuck the cd's would be a waste, let a alone it would be a waste of time burning the cd's. hey but if your happy with it then go for it.
I feel real stupid but,, i would really appreciate if you guys help me out.
how do i put mp3 files into music box? CF card? do i have to buy CF card my own?
and,, if i get CF card, then can i just put mp3 on card then insert into car?

If you want to put music in your vehicles memory system than you have to insert CD's into your car's system and it will record them in the hard drive. If you want to use the CF option than all you have to do is get a CF card load music from your computer and insert and play. The best guide is most certainly in your owners manual where I found this info and was a little disaapointed about the Hard drive where I thought I was going to upload music to the vehicle via CF card, laptop or both and save all of my music right in the car. I have tried all three options where I have burned one CD to the car just to see it work, I have a 100 gigabyte CF card with some music on it, but without a doubt the option I use the most where all of the music I own is stored on my IPHONE 3G 16 gigabyte. I bought the charger converter and have not looked back, I can browse all of my muisc via the head unit and make phone calls all day long without my phone ever losing battery life!!!! Good luck on your musical endeavor!
SO...the only way to put music on the HD is via a CD Music Disc (that then has to copy it as it plays...realtime!??!?!!) I am sure they did that for copyright issues...but that is crazy. That would take forever to put your music on it!
has anyone upload musics from cds and it doesnt say the title of the songs and jus show the date you uploaded that cd?? only couple of the cds i copy to the harddrive say the name of the song and artist but mostly the rest is juss dates!!
The cd recording is a pain and a little dissapointing. The cd should search gracenote for title information. If it cant find the title info, you can use this utility to edit the names via the compact flash (also a pain):
http://www.nissanusa.com/gracenote/
The compact flash is a good feature but also somewhat a pain because the cf reader in the car can only read up to a 2gb flash card and has a weird way of sorting folders. It is all in the manual.
The best music option is the ipod.

I have to disagree. I have either a 4Gb or a 5Gb microdrive in it right now and it works just fine.....
I also disagree on the ipod. I don't want an ipod, I don't want to buy into apple's marketing hype.

it does not burn it real time, i believe it burns it maybe 5-6x, definitely not real time.
I bought a ipod classic refurb from apple, better then burning albums to cd's just to get them on the HD. I love it. only thing i hate about it is when a playlist is finished it just stops playing, it doesn't go to next playlist or something, just silence.

Not sure what you mean. When I put a CD in...it appears to be copying it to the music box at the same time the song plays. If it is doing it faster in the background how can you tell?
I just got my '09 a week ago, and haven't begun loading music to the HD, but I do remember the owner's manual distinctly saying that the moving of the music from the CD to the HD is faster than the time it takes to play the music. The reason I remember this is because I was disappointed that the manual did NOT say how MUCH faster, or how we could know when it has finished moving the entire album to the HD.
Light, it will write a 12 song average CD before you finish listening to the 2nd or 3rd song.
You'll know when it's done writing. (Watch the screen) Question is, did you set it to record ANY you stick in, or only when you want it to? I defaulted mine to record ALL cd's on first entry. Then I permanently take them OUT of my car and never put them back.

Compusmurf - Thanks for that info.
I haven't defaulted my system to move everything to HD, so I will be pushing 'REC' with the albums I want moved. Like you, I will not be keeping CDs in my car once I have them on HD.
You are absolutely right, of course. When I key on the 'REC' record tab on the screen, a little 'Rec 1 of 12' (or however many tracks are on the CD) appears just above the 'REC' tab, and moves steadily up to 'Rec 12 of 12', then disappears when the last track has been loaded to the music box. As you said, it takes only around ten minutes or less to move an hour-long CD to the hard drive. I like this music box a lot.
Could anyone tell me if the ipod classic 120gb should workin the 09 maxi perm. i connected it to the car but it does not get seen by the car nor does the ipod show any type of sync. at first i thought it was the auth chip not being in the cable but now i am thinking its something else that is wrong.

Dumb question, did you switch your radio mode to iPod?
To troubleshoot try connecting a different iPod to it, seems like everybody has at least one now adays. Then it is dealer time.
FYI iirc when I connect my iPod to the car, the iPod displays a Nissan logo. Do you get similar feedback on yours?
good luck,
Max
thanks for answering that question for me compusmurf & lightonthehill, sorry not on too often....
As far as the ipod, i bought the ipod classic 80gb from apple directly, refurb since only for the car, it has worked flawlessly since day one, plug & play, no delays or lags.
Although I hate iTunes, I downloaded Yamipod which works flawlessly as well.

Yes. Single disc player with the tech package. Not that I mind, because I have already put dozens of albums out in the music box. But I doubt if I will ever reach the 500 album limit.
Music Box Question
Hello, I am new to this forum, and have looked to see if my question has been answered before, and I couldn't find the issue addressed.
So my question is, can you download your IPOD to the music box, so that you don't need to keep your IPOD in the car?
Thanks.

Any chance Nissan increases support for >2GB CF Cards?
Hi,
What do you all think is the chance that Nissan releases a firmware update that would allow us to use CF Cards that are larger than 2GB? I bought a 16GB CF card before I knew the limitations.

I am using a 4gb CF card and so far had no issues.
Max
perhaps this will shed more light on the 2gb CF limitation

I don't own an ipod. I own a zune. I just use the aux input to play. I'll set it to playlist X and just let it go. No cool controls directly from the Max, but oh well. Not trading in my Zune for an ipod.
Do you think Nissan is going to care? If it's not there now, and they didn't put it in the manual, they'll just release a bulletin stating that it's normal behavior and go on with life.
Loading mp3 onto the music box
Loading mp3, wma, or m4a onto the music box. I have an ipod but sometimes it is nice to have a copy on the music box, so for those of you who hate ipods or just want something to do here is how you can load your downloaded songs onto the music box.
1: convert your songs to a .wav format. I used Easy CD-DA Extractor by www.poikosoft.com (has a 30 day free trial, with no sound stamp on it).
2: Burn the songs on to a cd-r disc (mine held 18 songs on average), my computer automatically used Windows Media Player to do this, and as it burns the songs onto the disc it converts the format to a .cda format which the Music Box recognizes as a store bought format and allows you to record them onto the Hard Drive in the '09 Max.
I tried this and it worked but when I burned them onto the disc it did not keep the song title or album information. It just labeled them Track 1, Track 2 etc. On the Music Box it labeled them as Album 7-16-09 18:36 (time the recording stared) and then the track number 1,2,3, etc. I don't know if you can go in and change the info on the hard drive to describe the song Title and Album info. It seems that in another thread it was explained that that could be done as sometimes it doesn't transfer the info over correctly.
Anyway it would take quite a bit to transfer over alot of song to the music box as you have to do it one cd at a time and convert the songs which really didn't take it to long to do.
