i've been wanting to take my 97 max to the track for some time now but i heard that they do a safety inspection and am wondering what they check?

i really have no safety problems in my car but i have removed my cat and i know that that's not exactly legal. I have a pipe where it used to be so that it looks like i just have a high flow cat but in reality it's just an empty pipe

Is there any way that they would notice this and fine me or something? Or should i be good to go?

They will just give it a once over under the hood t make sure your battery is secure and no obvious signs of dangerous mods. It all depends on the inspector and track. They will most definitely not look for a cat.

Don't worry go and have fun. Spend 10 mins at the starting line watching how they do their burnout, stage etc so you know what to expect when its your turn. They most likely make street tired cars go around the water box so watch for that.

yeah, dont worry about not having a cat. they may check your wheels to make sure u have all of your lug nuts, make sure your hood closes all the way, heck, half the time i go they dont even check anything.

 

when i went last friday they didnt check any thing

 

yeah my local track never checks

the most I ever had done was when I took my truck they asked if I had a fuel cell, I said no and inspection was done

 

I have ran 12's with no helmet, battery in the rear , 4 lug nuts and no cats. I also know the guys real well too lol.

and also I'm probably going to Orlando speed world because it's the closest track to my house (in Daytona beach) that i can find

has anyone ever been there? is it nice? any better tracks in the central Florida area?

 

What nobody is mentioning is that the point behind the inspection is safety, not legality. They don't care what you've done to the car as long as it's safe.
BUT.. If you've done certain things (like relocate your battery to the trunk), then they'll require other things, like a battery box and cutoff switch located on the outside of the car.

They're not doing it to be stupid a-holes, they're doing it to keep people from getting killed when they wreck.

If the car has the stock battery location and securely tied down, the brakes work, all tires are in good shape and have 5 lugnuts on each wheel, and a proper throttle return (gas pedal comes up when you let off the gas), then you're good to go.... at least until you run 12s.

 

You don't have much to really worry about, just make sure all your lugs are there as already said. When you have aftermarket forced induction, relocated battery etc. then you have to start worry if your car follows NHRA rules/regulations depending on the track.

 

at my tack (new england dragway) when you run under 14 you need an approved helmet.

 

my track makes u wear pants, and a t-shirt at least(no cut-off sleeves)
