running lights are out but brake lights work?!

So ive been searching for an answer with no luck. Heres the run down.

Rear running lights dont work. (brake lights work when applying break)
Interrior dimmer is no longer working (doesnt dim dash lights)
Gear lights no longer work (next to shift ***)
Top radio/display contorls no longer work (dont light up, controls work)

This just happened one night, noticed my dash lights were very bright (i run them on dim) and that some of the interior lights went out, step out of my car and noticed how the *** of my car was all out, when using the controls in the car the turn signals, break lights, reverse lights, headlights, etc. all work. But the running lights are out.

I checked all the fuses and connections everything is fine.

Only thing I can think of is a bad relay or possibly switch somewhere. Just weird that only some things arnt working. But all the bulbs are good.

Any ideas?

Check the fuses one more time. I had absolutely, i repeat - absolutely the same problem with my I30 and it was caused by a blown fuse.

Theres a fuse box under the hood, next to the battery.

You blew a fuse in there. Check it out.

Can't it just be that coincidently both burnt out? Those bulbs have to relays or whatever you call them...lights that are always on and then the brake lights, so could it be that just both always running lights burnt out...?

You checked all 3 fuse boxes on the car ? In dash, front left near battery and front right near windshield washer fluid fill tube.

HAS to be one of those, I cant remember which one mine was I belive it should be next to the battery the one you need to check but check them all. I had the same issue when installing LED's and the parking lights worked when I had the car started via remote start otherwise no such luck.

so i found the other fuse box, under the stupid plastic shield thing, ive taken that shield off atleast 10 times and never noticed what that was lol, anyways it just started pooring cold rain on me (florida weather is retarded) so ill check it when it stops tonight, if not in the morning.

hope its a fuse and not a relay or something, I dont feel like goin to the stealer ship and getting raped.

So it "was" the 3rd fuse box, under the left engine cover? Man, they like to spread these things out.

I had what seemed like the same problem as you (twice) and it was the one next to the battery.

yep, 3rd one. I was looking at the fuse diagram, they spread them out like crazy. Interior lights should have been on 1 fuse, while rear lights etc. should have been on 1.

Atleast its fixed and we all know what to expect in the future if something "burns out"

start pulling fuses.

Glad you fixed it.

Can you take a picture of the exact location of that fuse?
