How do I fix the rear door window?

Hi everyone,
While driving home this afternoon in very cold weather, the rear pass door window just dropped open. I assume that it fell off the track, because you can move it up and down by hand, but the power does nothing. The motor is working, but it does nothing for the glass. It is very strange how this happened, there was no warning, it just got cold in the car fast! Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,
Zack

Have you actually taken off the panel and looked at it, or did you just post here?

The logical choice would be to take off the panel and see what actually happened, rather than relying on people to blindly guess.

well here's my blind guess...the gear(plastic) in the regulator/motor assm. stripped out & allowed the glass to drop. dorman sells a complete assembly..motor & regulator..reasonably priced.

It's the window regulator. Both back's on mine bit the dust just after 140k. I paid to get it done, i think it was ~$99 each time at two different mechanics.

My car is a 1996, I guess I need just the regulator and not the motor itself? How hard is it to change the regulator?

What has most likely has happened is this. There is a little square metal feral that has worked its way out of the plastic piece on the regulator that mounts to the window. I have successfully worked it back into its little home and used tie wraps to secure it in place, however, this is not a permanent fix as it will fail again sometime.

When my wife decided my rigging was too much, she told me to get them fixed. Order 2 from the local parts store (I think Autozone had the best price around $40), and replaced both of the rears. It will take you about 30 minutes max per side. If the motor still works (most likely it does), take out the old assembly, transfer the motor to the new assembly, put it back together and you're done in 30 minutes or less.

Yes, the regulator was bad. The Dormann part was $55.00 and the labor was $60.00. I paid to have it done because I had no time and the weather is horrible. Thank you everyone.

I have the same problem with my car. Both passengers side and the window behind the passenger is both basicly broken. The front needs a new rubber gear, and I dont know hoe to fix the rear window.

Thats alot just to get it fixed. I would think it would be around $50. just for the totla price, but mechanics these days, want more and more money for the simplest things, I'm glad I'm good friends with a good mechanic!! I get deals, like no labor chargers.
