rear main seal-repair info

simple question, i have oil leaking on my passenger side of the car, i touched to c wat color it is and its not red like tranny fluid but its the color of the engine oil so i know its engine oil leaking, my question is that could it be a rear main seal and/or is this a sign of a bad axle seal. i havent had time becuz of finals in school to jack it up trace the leak yet. but would like to know if its a rear main seal problem or axle seal thank you in advance

Probably not the rear main seal as the rear main seal is on the other side of the car. Likewise probably not an axle seal as both axle seals are on the other side of the car.

so theres no axle seal for the front passenger side at all? i thought there was one, and rear main seal is where the engine and tranny meet together correct?

check your rear valve cover gasket.

check your crankshaft position sensor.

check your front/passenger side camshaft position sensor.

check your oil pan gasket.

i did have my rear valve cover gasket changed 3 days ago but i still see oil underneath my car from the same area but in lesser amount thats y i though maybe it a rear mani seal, or axle seal but i dont understand how an axle seal would be on the other side of the car for the passenger side axle

There's a seal for the passenger side axle, but it is still on the driver's side of the car. The entire trans (and the seals you are talking about) is on the driver's side of the car and the passenger axle is really long and inserts in to the trans on the driver's side of the car if you were to draw a line right down the middle of the car. Leaking from that seal wouldn't show up on the passenger side.

Things that come to mine are crankshaft seal, valve cover leak, oil pan seal leak (either upper or lower oil pan), power steering (which you say you already ruled out).

either ur oil pressure switch..could have a bad o-ring...or ur rear valve cover gasket..did they use sealant around the gasket when they put it in...if not then thats probably where ur problem is...

to locate the leak..jack the car up on the passenger side...use jacks stands to hold the car up real good and secure.....take the passenger tire off and get about two or three cans of brake cleaner....get under the car where u think the leak is coming from and spray that whole area with brake cleaner..itll get rid of all the old oil sitting there and clean the area up real nice...plus it dries crayz fast.... then watch and see where the leak is comin from after u have cleaned everything up...

let us know how it turns out

oil pressure switch? thats the same as oil pressure sending unit correct? and alot of guys here are asking if i have changed that, and to be honest i have not changed it ever, but y would that cause or be related to an oil leak?

because it screws in to an oil passage in the block to measure your oil pressure and it tends to leak...
