19" tires on sport model......
19" tires on sport model......
First thing: I was told by the dealer that they filled the tires with nitrogen and now i have a low tire pressure sensor come on. So I guess i have to go to the dealer for this? Or can u jsut add air? Secondly I was curious as to how these low profile 19" tires wear and how often should I rotate. I dont wanna be buying a new set of these tires to often$$$
You can put in air to clear the code, you would have to go to the dealer to get the N2, but it should not take more then 20 Min. and they will clear the code, its all free. you should have gotten a N2 card in your owners book, you call and set up the account and you have free fill ups for 2 years anywhere. I would rotate every 7500 miles at least, but your wear will depend on how you drive the car. i have just over 4000 miles on mine and there is no major wear, they look new.
You bet it's a gimmick. Dealer in Oklahoma City adds $99 to the second sticker for Nitrogen in the tires of the Sport Pkg. Sounds kinda like the "Upholstery Barrier " coating.
Still waiting to hear from anybody that's put more than a few miles on the 19's

We are not driving race cars here. I can see this working for Nascar type driving, but show me the PROOF that tire wear is extended and you get better gas mileage in normal everyday driving. I bet you won't find it.......
You may say nitrogen is a gimmick, but look at it this way.
1. Nitrogen holds it's pressure better over time.
2. MOST american drivers rarely check their tire pressure.
3. Incorrect tire pressure costs in economy and tire wear.
Combine all 3 and there you have your "proof" of better economy and wear.
For the driver that the car is more than just a way to get from point A to point B, the benefits aren't nearly going to be as great because I'm sure you check your pressure weekly and rotate your tires often.... RIGHT?

I agree that nitrogen is best for probably over 95 percent of drivers. But not for an **** diddler who not only looks very carefully at all four tires every time he is getting in the car, not only checks the psi with a tire guage at least once each week (more often if there is a great variation in ambient temperature), but actually measures and records tread depth in every groove of each tire every three months in order to confirm the tread is wearing evenly, and will add or subtract air in order to cause the tread to wear evenly across the face of the tire. I am such an **** diddler.
possible change of wording
Uhhh....I think you might want to look at changing the wording toward the end of your last post...not that there's anything wrong with that...
Have a great evening. Are you any closer on buying a car?

Were I about sixty years younger, then yes, I would need to change the wording. But at my age, the term '**** diddler' has lost all carnal meaning. For me, it means I'm picking the raisins out of my Raisin Bran or tossing my Metamucil capsules into the air and catching them on my tongue as they fall.
I have offers in on two Winter Frost/Caffe Latte with Premium and Tech packages (VIN Serial #826804 at Sutherlin Nissan and VIN Serial #826832 at Capital City Nissan). I am going through the Internet Manager of my dealer (Lisa at Nissan South). The economy was not ready for my lowball offer two months ago, but I think it will be accepted this time. We will know within a week.

For me, it's Bran Buds mixed with some palatable cereal along with fruit. I'm catching up to you..just turned 66 this month.
Back on topic: You are foregoing the 19" wheels then? I was told by the dealer that the 18" tires are nitrogen filled but can't find a confimation. I have no regrets about skipping the Sport Package after reading the Edmunds review of the two models. The ride is firm enough as is for my type of use. Good luck with your purchase.

The GTR wheels are filled with nitrogen, that is more of a race car or high performance car. However, I don't see why they would do it to the Maxima, only to charge a premium. That and so the owner can brag that his tires are filled with Nitrogen. Funny thing is when one of the car magazines tested the GTR with the ZR1, GT2 and I forget the other car, the GTR was the only one that blew the right rear tire during 'hard' driving. It blew at about 150mph. The other cars tires were filled with standard air.

As for charging a premium for nitrogen in the Max, it's clearly a dealer profit center. While I do use nitrogen in my road and race cars, it's not going to ruin my day if I have to use o2 to top off a tire every now and then.
Eric692006- the revalved dampers (shocks) on the sport model together with the 19" tires shorter sidewalls mean quicker transient response (ie. better handling). You might also feel the increased torsional rigidity of the body reinforcements on some washboardy roads. Unfortunately, it all means there are some tradeoffs in terms of ride for owners of the SV Sport model.
Picking up any debris or damage at high speed will promptly lead to catastrophic tire failure. Nitrogen has nothing to do with it, GT-R or not.

Depending on many variables (irrelevant to the point I hope to make), I usually carry a few pounds MORE than the Nissan-recommended psi in my tires.
BUT
If I had the '09 Sport, I would seriously consider carrying a pound or two LESS than Nissan recommends. This should soften the ride enough to make it TWO service stations between toilet stops.
