transmission grinds into third almost everytime

Ya, so lately as i shift into third gear my gears grind, it only happens when i drive somewhat aggressively. and the clutch is all the way down so its not a mistake on my part. but i feel like im doing more and more damage every time i shift into third. it even happens when i drive normally sometimes. cars a 5sp with 65k miles. what can be wrong!!!

And another concern i have is my car squeaks when launching, or pushing the clutch down on slow rolls. almost like bolts are loose (that cant bee good) any other causes?

thanks guys

i have a similar problem with my 6 speed.. only when i'm driving aggressively, sometimes the stick just WONT go into third, and i have to try 2 or 3 times before it actually goes in.. this has happened at the track and f'd up my times!
im gonna swap out my fluid soon, but i doubt if it will help

So what can the problem be? If a fluid change won’t help, then there’s a problem with the transmission? What needs to be fixed? It just feels like I’m reducing the life of third gear and eventually won’t have a third gear.

my problem just started recently actually.. at first i thought i was missing the gear through driver error, but then i later realized that i was missing the gear because the stick just wasnt going in.. and yeah, the OP does have a 5 speed, so it may not be the same problem that is common to 6 speed transmissions

squeaking while pressing the clutch down is a throw out bearing. if it makes noise while clutch all the way down it could also be a pilot bushing. they both are usually replaced in a proper clutch job. now as for grinding make sure you have GL-4 fluid. If you have gl5 fluid it will make problem a lot worse. Cheapest thing to try is some MT90 fluid from redline. sometimes it fixes it almost miraculosly. get 4 liters of that and you can do it yourself.

Yup, what NisTech said, but I think they sell by quarts so you need to buy 5 qts for your 4.5 qts in the tranny.

I also have "the grind" but mines going into 2nd (I have a 5spd also), and have been considering the MT90 fluid change. Where can Redline be found? I'd like to change the fluid in both my cars, my other car is a '97 Altima 5spd.
