o2 color codes

Can someone please tell me the car side color codes for an upstream. 3 wire (right bank) Oxygen Sensor, 97se? I don't have a comprehensive manual. Thanks.

1. Signal
2. Ground
3. Heater

Like I said, it's on EC-148. The link is in my sig, it just takes a second to look it up.

I have one in there now that blew after a short while and expect it was either put in wrong or a sudden change in much higher Octane ruined it. In either case, I wan't to get this right;

Assuming white to white = Heat, would it be reasonable to presume that
Ignition is = to ground (r/b) and that ECM is = to Signal (L/Y) ?

from EC-148: Ingition=3 (or ground) and Heat=2 therefore Signal should = 1

Thanks for the manual(s)

What do you mean ignition?

As clearly shown in the FSM, power is pin 3 (R/B), heater is pin 1 (L/Y) and signal is pin 2 (W).

Where are you getting 'white to white = Heat'? And 'Ignition = ground'? That doesn't even make sense.

The corresponding colors on my universal BWD sensor are, Heater = white, Ground= Grey and Signal= Black. Generally Black is Ground to me and not Power, but here they mean the same thing.

But you are saying that White or Heat from the Sensor goes to 1 pin or L/Y which is Heat and Grey from the Sensor goes to 2 Pin / White which is Signal .

So to be correct:

Car to 02

Black Power to Grey (Ground/Power/3pin)
White Signal to Black (Signal/2pin)
Yellow Heat to White(heater/1pin)

I would have thought that white would go to white...

If i reset the ECU 05-03 code and it comes back on very soon after, would that indicate that the O2 in there now is wrongly wired? This condition just started after a few hundred kms with the new sensor.

You're just confusing yourself and everyone else.

Okay, for the last time.

Your O2 sensor - Factory wiring color
White (heater) - L/Y (heater)
Grey (ground [should be power]) - R/B (power)
Black (signal) - W (signal)

Have you checked the wiring? That's the only way to say whether or not it's incorrect.

Yes, it's likely a read error of some sort if the code comes back on instantly.

Thanks again for your patience.

The problem is now that the installed 02 is a Beck Arnley Univ SG285 for which I do not have nor can I find the color codes to see if it is or isn't wired right or how to correct what is likely wrong.

I have on order a BWG as described, but, if I can get the B/A in there to work, I will simply resell the latter or save it for the next time.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of a Beck Arnley or All-Universal color code chart would be much appreciated.

Thanks Again!!

You could go to an auto parts store, see if they'll let you look at the wiring diagram in the box.

In your view, could going from a few tanks of 87 Octane to 94 and with a very cold outside temperature, cause a relatively new upstream 02 to burn out?

Doubtful.

You could pull it, see if it's fouled up. If it is, a blowtorch may clean it up.

The RB o2, in the car now, has 2 white and 1 black.

The 3 wire adapter feeding it, up on the engine, has a black wire coming out out of the middle position with 2 white, one on either side.

Is there a diagram or does anyone know, what the center, left and right wires are designated for coming out of the adapter? Which is Signal, Ground and Heat?

Have you followed them all the way back from the plug on the engine control harness? You can see the OE wire harness colors there that I showed above, then just follow the wire straight down to see which function it has.

Ok, so across the top adapter for future reference;

1. (left) Power
2. (center) Signal
3. (right) Heat

It is likely my 2 outer need to be reversed, at the sensor splices, as the ECU is throwing the same code very soon after a reset.

Thanks.
