Parking Lights and Fogs only

Anyone know how to reprogram the system to allow only the parking lights and the fogs to be on? Another manufactures allow it, but Nissan vehicles only allow the fogs on when the headlights are on. I look the look of the fogs on without the headlights while dusk.

Not sure. Nothing I've seen yet. But would you believe that's actually "illegal" in some states to do that? I doubt most LEO's would ticket you over it, but it was in the handbook. LOL

you would have to figure out which wires to cut and splice together. possible to fail inspection if they do not shut off with high beams on though. but haven't heard of anyone with that problem.

I think this sucks as well, I used to roll with just my fogs on my truck before the MAX, and I thought that it was just a feature most vehicles had......I guess I was wrong when I got my MAX, I am sure someone will find a way here eventually!

If it can be done on a 5th gen, there's at least a decent chance someone can do it on a 7th

I made this change on both my 2nd gens, but there are a LOT more wires under the hood of these '09s, and everything is covered with shields and baffles. Maybe we have an electronics whiz here somewhere?

I'm sure it can be done. It'll be a minor change at the foglight relay. I cant provide a writeup or anything since i only own 4th gens.....I dont know anyone close to me that owns a 7th gen.

I am surprised it is illegal in some states, especially since some manufactures allow this feature. I just think it looks awesome at dusk to roll with the fog light on only.

If anyone with an '09 is around the Dayton, Ohio area I wouldn't mind taking a look to see if it would be possible to turn them on/off independently with the OEM fog light switch.

And some manufacturers allow you to program the GPS while driving too, but not Nissan.

Question, ive already changed my headlights to 6000k HID's, what is the bulb size to the fogs? the same as headlights "H11"? And also do i need a HID conversion kit as well like the headlights for the fogs or can i just go with the bulbs by themselves?

thanks!

I was hyped about this until I checked the compatibility. It says 2004 - 2007 Maximas only.

Fog bulbs are H11. As for the HID kit, that all depends what you are looking for. If you want them to match, yes, get another HID kit. Just remember that they won't match from every angle because of the projector lens in the headlight. If you want to put in yellow fogs or something (like I did - much cheaper) then no, you can just get standard halogen bulbs.

The easiest way to do it on these Nissan is to just wire the fogs into your parking lights. I work for nissan for 5 years now and this is what we always did to role with just fogs on.

It's only been tested to work on the '04 to '07, it may work on older and newer Maximas as well.

It isn't as simply as hooking it up to differnet wires, though. The module connects to a communication bus going to the BCM - some BCMs are compatible, some are not. There really isn't a way to tell until you try it out though.

In the newer Nissans it is much harder to just wire the fogs to the parking lights as the fog light relay is CAN bus controlled and integrated in to the IPDM. You can do it by adding a waterproof external relay (most are not, so make sure if it is going under your hood it is waterproof) but at that point you might as well just install the KPtech unit and have total control of the lights.

fog lights

I just gave up my Z on a lease, and traded my Titan in on a new Maxima. I had my fogs come on with my parkers in my Titan. I took a small 4 inch piece of 14 gauge wire and soldered a flat wire connector to each side. Then I connected them between the parking lights and fog lights. I did have to put a blown fuse in the fog slot to make it work. If you go to www.titantalk.com and search fog light mod.....you might be able to do this to the max, if you know which wires to jump.

its really simple, just get a flat head screwdriver to remove clips. You have to remove most of the clips in the front and I also removed some in the back. My hands are small so I slipped them up and removed the old fogs and put new H11's in. total time 10mins. to put the clips back in are easy. let me know if you have any questions

I just installed my Nokya H11 hyper yellow fog light bulbs (2500K). It was very easy taking about 5 min per side. I just had to remove about 10-12 plastic pins holding the under-carridge. I then reached up and twisted the bulb about 45 degees, pulling out and disconnecting from the wiring harness and repeat in opposite order with the new bulbs. The only problem is I think the yellow dulls out the blue of the HID headlights. I am going to order the 7000K artic white Nokya and try those. I will let you know what they look like after I install them....

Thanks, it seems like adding a switch is the easiest way to go. I have a blank area where a switch could be installed. It would be great if all you had to do was to run a switched hot wire to the fuse block.

Searching around to see if I want to try to add fogs to my 09S...
Some questions to see if I want to take on this job...
  1. Is the car pre wired for the fog lights?
  2. do you install a speterate switch for the lights?
  3. where would this switch go?
  4. or do you somehow add the switch to the stock switch?

I don't mind having a on / off switch so I can turn the on durning the day but want to make sure they go off when the cars off...
any help on this would be great as I hope to find someone who has done this already...

I noticed that it dulls out the blue as well... I was thinking about changing to 6K but the yellow fogs make my car unique where I am and everyone can tell that it is my car just by the fogs.

i have the 09S and i am goin to be installing a projector foglight HID light and the foglight will come on when my parklight is on. you dont need a seperate switch but they will need to convert either the voltage or currrent i think so the HID wont overpower the parklight.. i will keep ya posted after i get it done.. ps: just to convert it, it take 2hrs alone...

it was a hard and time consuming job. it took just 2hrs to make one side of the fog light come on with the park light because of how the car was wired/programed. it took that long because i had HID on the fog light and i had to put a relay and upgrade the wire of the park light. over-raw, it was a successfully job and my park light comes on without me starting my car. the fog light color is not green. it just look green on camera. i have 10k (skyline blue) for my headlight and 8k(skyline blue) for my fog light. my park light/front turn signal, reverse light/ rear turn signal bulbs are skyline white

I am sure it can be done. I actually did it when I had my 5.5 gen and never had a problem with inspection. Mine was wired to come on with the parking lights and turn off whenever you turned the high beams on. This makes it legal just like some other brands do it. Now that I have a 6th gen I have no plans to do such a mod because of the set up of the fog light in the hedlight assembly and not lower in the bumper like the 6.5 or the 7th gens.
