You have to love Maximas

I have a 96 SE 5-Speed. 172,550 street racing miles, with only a clutch, cv half shaft, and a transmission being replaced.(cv shaft 160,000 and transmission 168,500. Engine runs like it is spanking new. If your miles are adding up you better be putting back some cash for a new trans. because it cost me $2,300 to get mine rebulit..

Oh, I don't know, but could mad power launches with lotsa wheel hopping have something to do with your tranny's early demise

I've wheel hopped like 3 times on my car by accident. I felt my tranny's pain.

on my 95 SE, Nissan replaced my 5spd tranny completely for free ($3,500) i think at 75k miles, they screwed up installing a new clutch and it ended up breaking something in the tranny. oh well their loss not mine but now there is a maxima in a junkyard somewhere with a 5spd tranny with only 25k miles on it.

yall are scaring me about all these tranny rebuilds. I just bought my max with 82k ( has 84k now ) a month ago and people are reporting tranny rebuilds anywhere from there to 150k like it is really common. I am selling my 92 accord lx with 204k miles and have never ever touched the engine or tranny. I'm sure that there are just as many maximas that have that many miles with original trannys but I hope that all these rebuilds are a result of racing and not normal driving!! Please help me feel better about this.

115K on original tranny AND clutch. Some racing. NO wheel hopping. Feel better

Keep in mind that Honda engines tend to be 4 bangers, and 4 bangers don't produce that much torque. Less torque, hence less strain on tranny. The Maxima VQ engines are significantly more torquey, but still, the tranny holds up well.

96,000 miles on a 98...

Spark Plugs
PCV
Tires
Oil
Front Brake Pads

Radio Bezel
Passenger Side Window
Stereo
~Thief Broke Em~

(On a side note... the stereo takes longer to get out then most thieves anticipate... unfortunately, if they are amateurs they will still try a screw driver to pry it out)

Wheel Stud (Sears Broke it)

My antenna doesn't always go up and down all the way... but thanks to this site I know I can replace the mast now without replacing the 110 dollar motor.

Also, my LED light got moisture in it and fried... 124 dollars my a$$, I will make my own.

Have you tried simply lubricating it? I sprayed my antenna down with WD40 when it wouldn't go down all the way. FIXED

Yeah... it is physically bent ever so slightly. Lubing it with some graphite seems to help for a while but it eventually just starts sticking again. This time of year it is especially bad cause the metal is cold and there is salt all over it.

Re: heres a newbie question.

The clutch is a part of the tranmission. The clutch is responsible for connecting the engine to the wheels, so to speak.
