Ok first off, i have a 90' SE auto with 175k on the motor, less than 1k on rebuilt trans, and im having a few problems. Well first off, while browsing this excelent site, i see that breaking studs off for the exhaust manifolds is common. Well over this weekend i had experience with this. I have 3 broken off on my back head. Is there any special tools/specific drill/ or something to get in there and drill those out? Would a dremel work? id just like some opinions from people that have done this before.
Also, im having 'morning lifter clack' on mine. It seems to be one lifter from the sound of it..it'll tap and go away a lot untill it warms up to normal temp, then its quiet. Any reasons(or maybe quick fixes ) for this?

Thanks!

Ely T.

i know what you are goin through

well i am not really sure what to do about the studs broke, i know that i am gonna drill mine out over thanksgiving.. but about the lifter noise, my father is a service manager at a nissan dealer and he has said that this is very typical, they all do it, its normal and nothing to worry about.... just let it warm up a little before you drive her... My 90 max does the same thing....

Broken Manifold studs

Yeh, I am going through this myself and had asked this question last week to the guys on this forum. According to them, there is no special tool except lots of care. Some had advise to take it to your mechanic (if you know and like one) and let him do it. I talked to three mechanics including dealer and the price comes to over $700.00 that is if nothing goes wrong. Worst case scenario, pull the heads off and drill them out that way. If you are short of cash just get one side done. I post a similar question to FAST 4 EN, hoping he may have some other tricks. Good Luck
