Is it really necessary to swap in the axle mount(the loopy thing) from the manual car to the automatic one? they look identical, it looks like a real pain to swap, looks like the engine would have to be lifted up because of the engine mount being right on it.

yep, gotta swap it. different part #. install it last-- after everything else is installed, THEN remove the rear mount and its bracket (prolly have to unhook the ypipe) and swap the bracket.. that way you still have 3 out of 4 mounts installed so it'll be fairly stable.

Fudgeeeeee lol my engine hoist is at a friends house, I have a huge floor jack but Id rather use a hoist......... looks like I know what ill be doing tomorrow. Im selling this once im done fixing it up, im about to buy a pathfinder, I need a work/tow-when-my-Z-brakes-down truck.

1988 4x4 auto(man I gotta do a 5spd swap on that too, at least it doesn't have axle brackets)

How much do 5spd 1990 maximas in ok condition go for? Id love to keep both but I dont need 5 vehicles. Ill get another maxima someday.

here's a picture of them side by side. The AT bracket is on the left. You can see they are slightly different. Doing it like capedcadaver said seems to be the easiest way, plus removing the y-pipe too.

Going from what yall have said I take it that it does not need to be in for the car to drive fine, so im going to get it all together and change it at my friends house where my engine hoist is and he has a air compressor soo Ill get that done this or next weekend.

But got the trans in yay!!!, the line up pins were gay. I got the trans in by myself, what I did was took a 280zx head bolt, choped off the head and screw it in one of the bottom bolts and slide the side of the trans on that then swung up the side with the half shafts and had another bolt(with its head cut off) in there to slide on to, then bolted it up. If I didnt do that I think i would have never been able to get it on... I tried for 30 mins before that, now I gotta get the axles in and see if this transmission isnt broke, haha.

started to clean it before I put it in but then gave upp because I really dont care.

It is easier to swap the brackets with the transmission removed IMO.

I guess its a good idea to do it now because my tranny is still off and my entire exhaust is removed from the y-pipe down. Time to hit up pick n pull again.

Good luck getting one out of a junk car, you may end up having to drop the engine out of it.

LOL when I had to get that mount(last thing i got off of the donor car, I droped the motor out then draged it out from under the car, then finally was able to get it, no jacks are allowed at the junkyard so I had to drop it, it didnt have heads on it so it wasnt too heavy.

You are lucky the heads had already been removed. I highly recommend swapping the bracket on a hoist if you have any way to get access to one.
