what exactly is the purpose of the black thing under the gas pedal? i know it sounds stupid and almost self explainatory but im really curious? is it a throttle stop?

 

I think its just a throttle stop, it just limits how far you can depress the gas pedal

 

idk......my pedal doesn't reach the plastic stop. it stops a little short of hitting it, i think from when i was messing around w/ it some time ago

 

Can I go faster if I take it out??

If you press the pedal farther down, you would actually be closing the throttle plate. Think about it, at WOT, the plate is perpendicular to the throttle body, turning it any further will be closing the plate in the throttle body.

This has been discussed before, do a search and maybe you'll find the discussion, it had some better explanation is you still don't understand what i'm talking about.

 

If you take it out in a 3.5 car you'll freak out the drive by wire throttle and it will go into "limp mode".
