1.8T GTI pulls a nasty little trick to get the "win"
I came up to a light, and there was a GTP behind me that I had hoped to maybe get a race with, he had a big NHRA sticker on his rear window (cool
). Anyhow, instead I ended up next to a 1.8T GTI. I didn't notice if it was a 2.0, 1.8T, or VR6 at first, and didn't think anything of it. Then I noticed he was creeping forward at the light a little bit and lookin over, so I thought maybe he wanted to go. It was an older guy, probably 30-35 and the car looked perfectly stock, so I wasn't sure.
When the light turned green I took off at about 2/3 throttle in case he wanted to race. He hung back so I left off and shifted into 2nd at like 3500 RPM to start driving normally again. Just as I get into second he comes flying by me. So at this point I'm in 2nd gear at like 2000 RPM, which isn't good for racing. So I punch it and give chase, and my exhaust leak makes itself very evident and the car slowly climbs through the lower RPM range on the tach. Finally I'm up to a reasonable speed where I'm actually making some power and I'm pulling this joker back in. Since he got a major jump on me he's about a full 2 lenghths in front of me. I reel him in so my front bumper is at his rear bumper and I'm into 3rd passing 70 mph when he slams on his brakes and flips on his left turn signal and turns.
So in short I never got to fully wind the car out and whoop on him, he ended the race prematurely. It was a niftly little trick he pulled, one that I'll have to try next time I race a car that is faster than me and I want to cheat to win.
I made up for it later by racing this goofy yellow CRX that the owner claims runs a 14.6. Well I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say hes just dyslexic and not stupid, because the car looks more like a 16.4 second car than a 14.6 second car. That one was over before it started. Then on my way home from work a civic DX with some really blue headlights wanted to play on the highway. He got annihilated. End of story.
