Speed and Alcohol a deadly combo in Montreal
Fellow Orgers, Speed and Drink a deadly combo:
There was a car crash early Saturday morning around 1 AM about 5 minutes from my house. The driver Ryan Allen, 31 was on his way home on Brunswick Blvd about 5 minutes from my home. He was showing off to his two friends both passengers in his car about how fast his brand new 09 Maxima was and while passing another car he lost control, hit the median and rolled several times before slamming in to a building. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after the crash. His friend in the front passenger seat, Andrew Dumesnil 30, was ejected from his seat and died later of his injuries. A third unidentified passenger who suffered severe head injuries is in stable condition in the hospital. This is the second crash at this site since 1998 that killed two others back then...and here's the weird part, they were all friends! Estimates had the car going over 100 mph at the time of the crash. There is a 500 yard straightaway on that part of the road before a trafic light and a poorly banked curve. The two storey building that they crashed in to has a huge hole in the wall and is now under major repair. The lesson to be learnt here is that speed and alcohol are deadly and that drinking and driving is bad news. If you're going to speed, do it on the track alone and sober, not on public streets. Ryan, who was driving, was celebrating his birthday....
RIP

Of course many of us who know better are still mesmerized to the point of youthful foolishness by the agressive styling and ample power of this '09 Maxima. I have to catch myself frequently. Had I been imbibing (as info, I never drink), I probably would not have the judgement to slow down.
This accident was not only tragic for these young men, but will be a trauma that their family and friends will have great difficulty dealing with for many years. So often these things seem to happen around graduation or in celebrating a birthday; events that should be filled with joy and happiness.
So sad.
Very sad news, indeed. No matter where you live, serious speed belongs on the racetrack, at a sanctioned high performance driving event. The '09 Maxima has plenty of power and high-tech features, but it cannot defy the laws of physics. And any of us can be subject to the law of stupidity...
