Anybody replaced front windshield?

Has anybody had their windshield replaced? I ask because I want to get mine replaced (it's been cracked for years) but if it requires a costly new window seal I'd better hold off.

A co-worker of my brother's recently got her windshield replaced in her 4th gen. Maxima and I noticed they were able to re-use her stock seal, and it was only something like $120 total.

On my Civic, for example, the glass replacement requires a new seal and the seal is something like $100 so it cost me near $300 to get that one replaced

Don't quote me on it, but chances are that with a car this age the seal will need to be replaced.

Most 'on site' windshield replacement businesses are quite violent when removing the original seal so that you are forced to pay for a new one. Have you seem the hooks they use to remove the seal???

On the Civic the actual "seal" itself is the seal AND the molding (i.e., the seal has a groove and the glass sits in it, and the "outside" of the seal also serves as the glass molding), which requires a new seal to be purchased.

It looks like the 4th gen doesn't have that same set-up. As in, it looks like the glass can be mounted with liquid seal/goop/whatever, and then the molding is just superficial and thus can be re-used (as in the molding and "seal" aren't the same as in the Civic).

I'm asking if anybody knows for sure if this is the same case with the 3rd gen.

technically you "can" go without it...but it'll look different. if you don't care then don't sweat it. goop more window weld on and you're good to go.

Insurance deductible is around $100 for new seal and window.

ya, im thinking the front windshield isn't something Id personally get cheap about. Its not something you need to replace every few years. So just do it right the first time and eat the costs now.

I have had a crack go from top middle to lower left on driver side of my windshield. Been like that for 6 years now. Only 1 cop has warned me about it. Other than that, I could care less, but Id like to replace it when cash is more abundant.

I had my front windshield replaced 10 years ago and was able to successfully resuse my original seal (minus a 1/2" notch where they had to cut) and it has never been an issue even a decade later. If I had the choice though, I'd definitely want a new seal because I baby my car.

What I really want to replace is my rear windshield seal. It's become faded and pitted over the years, but the window is fine. The shops have warned me removing the glass could break it, so I'll just live with it unless I have to replace it.

Hey James, just replace it and get the seal from the dealer. i know its not much cuz i spent nearly $80 on all the seals and trim around the front windshield. here are the part numbers:

72762-6E110
72752-86E00
72763-6E110
these part numbers are for the front windshield outer trim.

72754-6E110
72725-85E00
72755-6E110
these part numbers are for the front windshield inner trim.

Are those part numbers universal? I'm just wondering if your numbers include the chrome outer trim on the GXE vs. the black SE trim.

you don't need new outer trim, the trim that's silver and black on the GXE and all black on the se, if you're careful popping it off you can reuse it.

No, the Part #'s i posted are true dealer #'s but those are for the SE model so no chrome which is why im getting all SE's. courtesyparts.com's part #'s are not the same as if you go through the dealer. so if you try searching these #'s that i posted through courtesy, you will not find them cuz they are all different. so either go through the dealer or through courtesy.

Hey thanks that'll come in handy. I may just go ahead and bite the bullet and do it, although I need to do some more work on it (still have some rust repair to do and the sunroof glass is recently cracked as well much to my dismay) and need to spend a good deal of money getting my '93 going, so I still might just wait. Decisions, decisions..

don't worry i know how that is since i had to put my paint job on hold for another while since i still need to order the rest of the SE trim pieces before i start taking the car apart and prep it for body work and paint and get rid of some rust as well.
