NOS install questions

I have everything assembled and understand just about everything in order to install my NOS kit. But I have a few questions. 1) Does the maxima have a valve built into the fuel system that can be tapped into by the NOS kit, or do I need to purchase a certain fitting? If I need to purchase that, does anyone have basic instructions on how and where to plumb that? 2) I have the stock air box, so can I put the spray nozzle in the ribbed tubing in front of the throttle body?

Thanks in advance,
C

no..the maxima has no test port on the fuel rails...you have to buy some brass fittings from a hardware store to tap into it just above the fuel filter....you need 2 female to female 1/8 inch NPT T-fittings, one 1/8 inch male to male coupler...2 5/16 nipple to 1/8 inch NPT male fittings...and a length of 5/16 inch EFI fuel hose...this will allow you to tap in both the FPSS and a FP sender for an electric Fuel pressure gauge....

for the NOS spray nozzle...with a stock intake setup I'd say just drill straight into your throttle body...that's how I have mine..and it hits HARD..the farther you got from the TB...the less hard the NOS will hit.....but the best option would be to buy either a PR CAI and then tap into the upper intake pipe between the MAF and the TB...or just buy the PR CAI's upper intake piping and use a popcharger on the other end..and do the same thing. Don't worry about drilling a hole in the throttle body...you can alway use some kind of rubbery epoxy to patch up the small hole.

Thanks for the help. So I can buy the fittings at the hardware store or do i need to go to a performance shop?
Did you remove your throttle body to drill the hole so you could clean out the shavings and where on the throttle body, underneath, on top, on the side? Thanks

sorry to bother again, but just one more question about these fittings. Do you happen to have a picture of how these fittings look when they are installed, so that I have something to go by. If not, thanks again.

Hi C

I am interested in adding an NOS system to my max too. I have been looking through the forums, but am not confident about fitting one myself. Do you have any advice? What type of system do you have? NOS, Zex? other?

I am thinking of getting the appropriate A/F gages and remote valve switches. Sounds like you installed yours very recently which is why i am asking you. Also if you have other useful links, that would be great!

Majority of us on teh board use the NOS systems. I knwo there are 2 or 3 guys who use the ZEX. I myself use the NOS dry kit. That is your safest way of going and easiest to work with.

You shoudl consider the following: Window Switch, Purge Kit, Remote Bottle Opener, & Bottle Heater.

Re: Re: Re: NOS install questions

Thanks for the advice. How much did you pay/should I pay for a system like this?

Is there a complete system like this available somewhere? I have looked at NOS website, it looks like you have to purchase all the parts and pieces separately. Also wondering if I should get some of the A/F gages etc?

Re: Re: Re: NOS install questions

One more question....
I live in Colorado. We can only get 91 octane and not 92 as premium. In most postings I have seen advice against using anything under 92. Is this going to be a problem for me?

If you buy the fittings at a performance shop...they will be a pretty blue color and cost you upwards of $30-$40 for all the fittings...if you buy them at a hardware store, it will cost about $10 MAX...and they will get the job done just the same.

I don't have a pic of the fuelt tap install becuase my car is in the shop right now....

I left the throttle body on the car during spray nozzle install..and just stuck a rag in it so I didn't get metal shavings everywhere. here's a pic of my nozzle install...
