LOW IDLE WHEN STOPPING QUICKLY??

Ive had a small issue that's getting more frequent. I've noticed on my auto that when im coasting to a stop in 3rd or 4th gear as soon as I depress the brake the rpm's drop immediately down to about 1500 or so. I presume this is normal but sometimes when I almost slow to a complete stop is car shudders and idles on about 500rpm's. Now when I stop at lights etc. it dips to about 500rpms and has a slight shudder like it's gonna quit but never dies. As soon as I barely touch the gas it smooths right out.

I thought maybe the trans. was not downshifting to 1st gear, but when I pull off it's always in first?? Anyway, has anyone had a similar problem? Any suggestions, car is stock with 211k and maintained regularly.

So in 'maintained regularly', does that also include cleaning the TB/IACV?

If not, then do so.

No real need for a howto. Pull it off the car, take it all apart, clean up any grime buildup.

Also, set your idle again, the proper way.

I'll look into cleaning it again and see if that works.

I had this problem, which eventually did lead to stalling (after a year or so). It was a bad MAF sensor and clogged EGR tube.

the proper way of cleaning that valve is to completely disassemble the entire assembly...

so remove the entire assembly form the throttle .. now ur gonna take the whole thing apart..

remove all the valves... aka iacv for power steering and for the AC.. be careful because there is a spring inside.. clean both of the plungers with brake clean and a Qtip..

next remove the IACV-ACC (this is the idle control valve itself) and clean teh plunger with brake clean...

what you wanna do is remove the idle air adjustment screw also.. make it before removing it.. then when ur done set the idle properly

i have the same problem, but in my 5spd. are all these procedures relevant to me?
(IACV, TB, EGR / Tube, MAF Sensor, set idle)

i have never done anything like this, so i'll have to research it, but i want to be reading up on the right things lol

I have had this prob with my 95 SE 5sp so I cleaned the TB, IACV, egr, New plugs, Coils, fuel filter, fresh oil change, flushed coolant sys, and reset idle. None of this has fixed the problem, so If someone doesnt find an answer soon Im done, and ready to sell it. Does the 2000 se have this problem too? Maybe Ill trade for a 2k SE. I love the 95 SE body style please someone help.
