how to sandblast?
how to sandblast?
i may have gotten in a little over my head.
i bought some 18" wheels from a buddy, and they needed lots of work. there were about 8 different colors of paint on them from where they had been through so many owners, so i knew i had a little bit of work to do anyway.
so, i went out and got some aircraft paint remover, and before i knew it, i had already gone through 4 CANS!!!! i tried letting it soak in, i tried removing it with a pressure washer, i tried damn near everything short of burning the fucxers.
so my brother decided to take a wire brush to one wheel, he got all the paint off, but now i'm gonna have to bondo and sand literally the entire wheel.
i know another alternative is to sand blast them, but i can't find anyone in my area to do it for a good price. the only place i found that had one to rent was for buildings, and it was way too much. i would have had to rent the big air compressor/trailer thing that tows behind a truck just to use it.
so i'm down to this option... buy a sandblaster and figure out how to use it.
i have seen them ranging from $15 to $800. wtf? what is a good one to use? how do you use it?
(EDIT, fwiw i have an air compressor with a ~150 lb capacity, and a pressure washer)
i wanna be cost effective as possible here guys, i'll pretty much try anything at this point! thanks,
tyler

how u go through 4 cans and not be done? You need to spray it and take a steel wire brush and scrub the paint off. then just sandpaper to sand it smooth and paint away.
lol how you have 8 different colors on the wheels. just remember to wear a mask if you do sandblast. Beadblast > sandblast btw.
