O.k its one thing after the next with my max right now,
1st while driving i have a crazy sound like some kinda rusted ginding sound is going on by the right side front wheel... im not sure what it is, someone said it could be due to worn bushings, any idea???

2nd, ill be driving on the smoothest pavement and all the sudden this crazy annoying clunk will accur, it would sound like if the wheel was falling off or if a strut was loose and is just banging all over the chassis... friend said it could possibly be axle??? i checked the bolts in the wheel, the bolts on the shocks and the bolts on the strut tower (whatever that area is called...) all bolts are fastened and fine, anybody with any of these problems??? can the axle really cause such clunking noise???

 

Everything you mentioned is possible.

Another thing that many don't check are the sway bar links.

 

ill check those out today, better yet ill just buy the complete bushing set and change everything out

 

Well i got one problem solved... the reason i had the loud clunk, was because some how in life, the 32" nut (no homo) on my axle was loose never did anything with an axle since purchase... now for the squeaks im not so sure... it squeaks less now that the bolt is tightened... no $$$ spent yay

 

The fact that you found the driveaxle/bearing nut (32mm) loose means that you are going to have to replace the bearing (at least). The nut will more than likely back off again. Chances are that the hub, the driveaxle (splines and mateface) and possibly the knuckle are toast as well. These parts will all have to be carefully inspected.

 

lls i did say 32" now didnt i... must be thinking of my body parts no homo... noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i dont want to buy nothing else, its too much...

 

I'm having the same problem with the grinding noise in the front right tire. I don't know what the hell it is but its very annoying. First, I thought it might be the dust shield rubbing against the rotor, but it wasn't. I took everything off the rotor, caliper, etc. and when I turned the wheel it made that noise comming from the cv axle or something but I got to get it fixed its so annoying. Please help.

 

try the samething i did, or if you are sure it is the axle, change it, or just the boot

 

grinding sound = check the metal dust shields behind the brake rotor. Sometimes small rocks or debris get wedged between the shield and rotor and cause wicked "rusty metal grinding sound." This happenend to me several times.

clunk = if it only happens occasionally/randomly it's probably a bad endlink binding up and then releasing at random times. This happened to me twice, though usually it will happen after or during a turn when the endlink binds and the car leans. But could also happen going straight.

If it is repetitive (e.g. it goes "clunk, clunk, clunk") then it's probably something to do with the wheel/hub

EDIT: I read the rest of the thread, and both noises are likely related:
clunk (obviously) due to the hub/spindle/axle play caused by the loose hub nut
grinding/squeaking means your bearings are probably shot on that wheel. When the hub nut comes loose, it doesn't take long to fuxor the bearings....and possibly the hub outer race/spindle inner race....

 

front wheel bearings going bad are a common occurence on maximas. I think I replaced mine 3 or 4 times.

If you're hearing a clicking sound it's probably a CV joint.
