5th Gen starter on a 4th Gen?

Will the starter from a VQ30 5th Gen (a 2000 model) work on a 1995?

Both are auto trans.

The starters have different numbers of teeth on their gear.

Also, the 5th Gen starter went right onto the 4th Gen and is working perfectly.

Thanks for this info.. gonna return my 2nd refurbished junk starter from autozone (in hopes they refund my money) and going to get a newer one from Schucks.

By the way, I just need to get a 2000 Maxima starter for my 4th gen. Infiniti I30 right?

Aren't autozone starters lifetime warranty?

I thought the 5MT starters had more torque than 4sp?

AutoZone isn't... the product is. Autozone sucks.

1 rule of thumb, if you don't use refurbish equipment in your home such as electronics... then no way in hell should you do the same with your vehicle.

Luckily this starter that I just got on Thursday of last week died before I drove out 4 hours away from home.

Good luck trying to find a 4th gen, or even 5th gen, starter that's not refurb/reman. Unless, you wanna do it yourself, in which case, it'll be a refurb/reman anyways. So... where's your source for non refurb/reman and how much does it cost these days?

edit: Just went on partstrain.com, found 2 suppliers that claim to offer new starters. I find it very hard to believe they can do this economically. Which they probably aren't. If you look at their prices, they're way too low priced to be considered quality new starters. I may be wrong.

The same companies also offer reman starters. Kinda makes you wonder what you'll actually get. Those remans look darn good these days. I'll stick with the advice I've always given here on .org: get one from a source that'll ship to you asap and with lifetime warranty. For most people, a big-box local parts store will do. They have local warehouses where they'll have the starter to you in a day at most, and it's lifetime warranty if anything should go wrong.

Shucks auto parts has a 10 and 11 tooth starter for $185 + $5 core charge (if you don't you have the original starer)

That's for the 2000 Nissan Maxima. And brand new, not refurbished/reman.

The refurbished one is $149.

When you get a starter or any part from the stealership.. I think you're paying a lot of money for their name. Not so much the quality, but I could be wrong.

When I think of a dealership's price in parts.. I think of name brand clothes.

Ever think about why they want your core? Why's it called "core"? So they can reman it. As long as they change all the internals, they can call it 'new'. But doesn't the process sound like 'reman'?

The dealership starters are expensive because they're rare. Supply and demand. There is such a small supply bcuz 4th and 5th gen starters are out of production. If you ask them for a 1st or 2nd gen maxima starter, they'll sell you a reman.

Isn't Reman = Refurb?
