1st of all, I would like to introduce myself as a 93' GXE Auto owner w/ 196,4?? miles (and still running like new). I've had the car for almost 2 months now, and I can say that I love the way it drives.
I have a couple of simple questions.
2 weekends ago, I decided to flush my engine, and cooling system. While flushing the engine, I decided to use Amsoil 10w-40 in the engine w/ an Amsoil filter. I have an Amsoil air filter also, and I can say, that the stuff is great. I don't have the data yet, but gas mileage and power has improved, and the engine runs quieter and smoother. While doing so, I noticed a small hole (about the size of a flathead screwdriver) in the right CV boot. I get a Haynes manual, read it and decide that although I am not mechanically inclined, I can handle it. Well, I DID!!!!! It was great, and so much fun!!!!!! The thing is now that I've pulled out my axle, I saw a bunch of cruddy tranny fluid coming out of the transaxle. How do I flush this out. Someone told me that most of it is in the Torque converter. Well, that I ain't doin'. Is there an easier way?
My second question is......What kind of spark plugs should I use in this car to get the best performance?
And third....should the tranny Power/Comfort switch click when I move it? How can I tell, when I'm in which mode (the comfort light is out) The owners manual mentions something about an automatic mode. How do I put it in this?
Well, thanks for taking the time to read this long post. And thanks in advance to those that decided to respond.

well i dont know about the axles or spark plugs but the power/comfort switch should click and light up. if the light is busted the only way to tell is by the way it shifts. the "power" will shift faster and kinda kick, and the "comfort" will shift slow and smooth. dont know what else to tell ya but that.

hey, I can't help ya on the performance stuff but I can tell ya that the "automatic mode" the manual talks about is when the switch is in-between the "power" and "comfort" modes.

the best thing to do for your tranny is to either just do a drain/fill once a week for a few weeks, or take it to a lube place and have them do a complete flush on it..
use good fluid like redline, Amsoil, or any good synthetic fluid...
if you do the drain/fill at home, you'll need about 3-4 qts each time you do it.. I recommend doing it at least 3 times over a 3 week span.
if you take it to a shop to have them flush it, you'll need about 12 qts of fluid..
redline or amsoil is about $6-7/qt, so it won't be cheap either way.. expect to spend $60-100 to get it done.

other than that, there's not much to do.

i got quoted at $160 to do the tranny flush when they replaced my axles. That was awhile ago and they said i needed to do it pretty bad but i'm cheap.
hah
Only thing i notice wrong with my tranny is when it's hott and you put it in reverse, it knocks, but any other gear is fine.
