Parting out a 4th Gen: Is it worthwhile? Money made?

I've got a 4th gen that's just about ready to give up the ghost I think. It's at about 270k miles and I don't see it making it much further.

There are a lot of parts on it though in great working order and the interior is in great condition.

So, for those that have parted a 4th gen out:

1. Would you do it again? Lessons learned?
2. Did you make a decent amount of cash off it compared with just selling it as a parts car or similar "beater"?
3. What kind of cash can be made? $500/1k/2k/???

Thanks

ask MaxFever1987 and/or Teaner, or check out there classifieds in the 4th gen section.
the thing that makes it easiest is having a good reputation and good feedback. if you live somewhere with a lot of local orgers, its easier as well

It all depends on how far you part it and how long you spend selling the stuff. Based on looking at others partouts I would guess you could get maybe ~1k.

I could use a few small things if you decide to part.

i think this thread alone should telll you that there is still a demand for your parts :P therefore with such high mileage you probably have a better chance in profit by parting out, and parting out simple parts such as tails fogs headlights and interior parts is easy and pretty easy to sell as there is usually an interest for them. Exhaust and major engine components are a bit harder but easy if you can find people locally or unless you are mechanically savvy.

Junk yards buy parts too, they don't pay nearly as much as owner, but it's a quick way to get rid of your "left over" parts.

if your going to part out a car in a national forum site like this, you have to be willing to ship parts and have patiance. you might be about to make a grand or more but it can take from months to even a year or more depending how much patiance and willing to have a car on your driveway with missing parts...
