Gas Gauge and Temperature Gauge

So a few months ago I had my speedometer LED'ed.

When installing it, I think I moved both needles accidentally while trying to put the cover on (had to replace the black plastic strip where the CEL light is).

For a while, my fuel gauge would only go slightly above the 3/4th mark (on the F side not E side). But it worked. It would go all the way to the bottom. Well I wanted it to go back to just above F when it was a full tank.

So...what I did was:

- Filled up full tank
- Tore speedometer unit apart
- Took off needle for fuel gauge
- Put it back on with it slightly above F

I figured this would be fine and it would continue to work. Nope. Now, it goes from above F to the middle point and that's when I know I have no more gas (light comes on - etc.)

I did the same thing for the temp. gauge. I had the car running so it was at operating temperature. I took the needle off and reset it back so it was at the middle.

Now, it doesn't always fall back down to the bottom when the engine is cold. However, it never goes past the middle point...so I guess it knows where to stop correctly.

How can I recalibrate both of these. I regret accidentally touching them...they worked perfectly before.

Adjust the needles a bit more, being your now on the high side, only move them 1/4 way back down the shaft until you get the desired reasings from them.

Ilya, do you still have that spare cluster? If so you can use that to calibrate them properly.

Yeah I do. What do you mean though? If I take the gauges off, I'll have to re-do the LED setup (get it to stay in place).

Try calibrating it like this:

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...r-needles.html

Basically, you rotate the spare cluster needles until they "stop". This is your calibration point. Then you make your cluster needles "stop" at this same point.

Okay. I'll give that a try. Thanks Kyle.
