Rad Fan Difficulties -ECU cant control them anymore-

Hey Guys,

So Just this last night I went to the track again for some fun, This time with a few grudge matches so I tried a few quick easy mods for a little edge.

I gave Jimes Manual rad fan hi/low switch mod a try so I could cool the car down as best as possible.

The mod consists of tapping into ecu pin 13 and 14 (hi/low) and jsut putting them to a ground to trigger the relay. It worked great right away, What I did not realize is that My fans didnt work when the motor ran. they only worked when everything was off. After a run my car overheated and gushed coolant all over the pits.

Tried for a while with trial and error and couldnt get them to work. even gave the relays direct signal from the battery, they turned on and ran until the engine was on or ECU was even on (key in the on position, engine not even running)

What I did to get a couple more runs in and to get home was to very ghetto fabricated give the fan motors a direct 12V from the batter and disconect the relays and plugs.

Did i poissibly fry my ecu? mayby give pin 13 and 14 a 12v rather than a ground? car runs fine and all, but i have to manually give power to the fans now?

any ideas here or advice?

thanks in advance..

ps I ran a 14.5 @ 96 mph minor bolt ons. intake, exuast. fidenza

It might seem very basic, but did you check all your fuses? The pins you grounded at the ECU might trigger the relay, but if your fuses are shot, then the relay wont have any juice to send to the fans.

How did you connect into pins 13 & 14? You don't cut the wires just tap into them and run each wire to a on-off-on double pole double throw centre off switch. As long as either wire is not grounded the fans operate as normal. You need to show me a pic or diagram of how you did it.
