97 auto. The thing stalls out (sometimes) while in idle, just after starting (aka idling) or just under a low rpm ( like taking the foot of the gas to take a turn). If i rev the engine I can stop it from completely crapping out.

What do you all think?


... also i forgot. I had codes checked and it did pull up the torque converter. any idea how much an install goes for one of these?

 

torque converter "install" is going to be probably the same as a clutch change. Everything inline with the transmission, along with the transmission itself, has to come out.

Max.org, the reason your power steering is getting tight is because the idle is dropping too low for the power steering pump to work properly at those low of RPMS. My guess is something IACV related. god knows mine has never worked properly.

I talked to a few transmission shops and only one of them told me it doesn't sound like it would be the torque converter causing this problem.

idle air control valve = iacv.

 

It sounds like a torque converter problem to me.

My guess is that your TCC (torque converter clutch) is not disengaging.

besides all that, make sure your fuel filter aint dirty.. ima bout to take my gas tank down as soon as it gets to empty and clean it out. I'm sure dirty fuel can have something to do with it also.
