Hit a semi-truck Tire on the free way...scariest thing ever

this busted tire was laying in the middle of the center lane on the freeway, i happened to be behind a slow semi truck and decided to switch lanes. Soon as I do, BOOM, i hit the tire with my passenger side bumper. I didn't have much time to avoid it seeing there were cars behind me on my left and the semi on my right, but i managed to avoid it going under my car.

I hope my suspension is alright, the front tire jumped up and my front bumper paint is ruined.

So much for the 70k mile 99 mint condition OEM paint Maxima...

Pics coming up.

Damn, that really sucks man...although most of it should be able to be buffed out. Did the fog light survive?

You've really had a rough week or two with your Maxima; now you know how I've felt all summer. I think my car has been down for almost 8 weeks since May.

Yea, fog lights are out for that purpose. Im not putting them on until i get my lip/skirts.

Anyways, i think i made a bad choice on the Stillen FSTB. I completely forgot the 00-01 maximas have a angled tower bar and 4th gens have the straight one. Being i have a 00vi, i dont think its going to clear by much.

guess i gotta sell it now.

That royally sucks.

On the bright side, it looks like you just need some paint work and no body work.

True, but I believe the OP has a 5th gen Stillen FSTB and is a little different from what I'm gathering.

Damn ... Not too many good things going for your car in the past week or so ...

Could have been a lot worse.

I remember driving on the highway, with a 30-40 ft grass median, and a tire exploded on the other side. My friends and I all ducked and looked around that's how loud it was.

Those trucks and their tires can be a real scary ordeal.

Yea, im glad it wasn't worse. I gave it a wash and all the the black came out. Only visible damage is the scraped paint and paint cracking. The bottom of the bumper needs sanding, looks like i bottomed out on gravel!

yeah truck tires are no joke, one of my neighbors family got killed because a truck tire went through their windshield, minus the now mentally handicapped daughter.
just another reason vehicle maintenance should be required by law.

Yep, I had to do the same thing, even though I have ABS, I believe it is part of something for the A/C lines...but I am not totally sure. I just used a grinder and touched it up with some KH3 paint.

Yeah it comes close, but doesn't touch it at all, at least to my knowledge.

I don't have my camera here at school with me, but here is a picture that I have of the engine bay; you can see that it barely clears but it does make it.

Front strut bar. The stillen one he has is 100$+. You can get a generic ebay one for 30$.

Anyways, did you extend your iacv harness? Seems like you have a lot more play than me.
And on my max, there's nothing mounted on that part we need/needed to grind. Its just a empty bracket.

its so weird how much clearance you have. Are you using your 00vi mounting brackets?

There's about 1/8" space between the cruise control cable and the strut bar.

I think it's just the angle in which he took the picture. I bet if he measured the distance, it'd be the same as yours.

Yeah, the clearance of mine is similar to yours, mine probably clears though because I have the popcharger and you stufffed a 5th gen intake in (nice job btw!)

Glad to hear you're ok, trust me it could have been much, much worse.

Had you hit that tire front and center there's a chance you could have set off your airbags.

Nice Max BTW!

bend it. didnt i post that in here?

Anyways, strong bump but on a side note...almost died today in the rain on the 110 freeway. Car lost control, fish tailed and i was battling it out and ended up perpendicular to traffic. No damage, no one got hurt, but fck was it scary.

Dont drive 50+ in the rain.

bend it? will do! if not ill have to fab a bracket up to see how that goes.
yeah theres a foot of snow here, enjoy your rain.
i was stuck parallel on an off ramp for 3 hours last night after work, the guard rail was a foot from destroying my retros and a foot from ripping my rear end off.
i was not a happy guy haha.

but seriously rain sucks in most cases.

yea man, sorry to be vague but i really had no set of instructions, i just went to town on the bracket, bending it and cutting it while off of the car.

I remember making the grooves where the throttle cables sit deeper, in order to let the cable sit lower on the bracket, if that makes sense.

Lets just say the bracket was no where near OEM by the time I was done with it. Get custom! Trial and error.
