Retrofit question

I came across this web site called theretrofitsource.com . I've never seen anyone on the org talk about this site or maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. They sell this complete kits for $390 shipped which includes:
  • The FX bi-xenon stage 3 kit includes all the goodies for a top notch retrofit.
  • Includes: FX bi-xenon projectors, 35w Gen 3-R Ballasts, D2S bulbs, Bi-xenon wire harness, Shrouds, and FX-R clear lens upgrade.
  • Shroud options: Ocular, E46, Gatling (specify upon checkout)
  • Bulb options: slightly used 85122+, brand new Morimoto 5/6000K (specify upon checkout)
  • The FX-R clear lens upgraded included here really brings out the maximum performance of the FX projectors, giving them a sharp, colorful cutoff line (for tons of exotic color flicker) and intensifying their light output.
  • The shrouds will complete the look of your retrofit, giving your finished headlight an OEM like appearance.
  • All parts will be in perfect condition, and come with a 1 year worry-free replacement warranty.
  • The FX Stage 4 kit is priced at $390. This is an amazing price for a hybrid clear lens OEM Bi-xenon setup.
My question is, is this legit? Has anyone ever ordered from there? Would you recommend I purchase each part separately or does this kit include everything needed for me to retrofit a pair of R34's myself?

I did buy something from Aaron (I believe that was his name). I got a 9007 Bi-Xenon harness from him. It didn't last very long. I now go to JtzMax for my harness(s).

He's alright I guess. You shouldn't have much problem buying from him.

Just to give you an idea... I just bought my FX's, with OE Philips bulbs for $130 shipped, and a set of Matsu****a ballasts and another set of OE Philips bulbs for $120 shipped. I made my shrouds, making my harness, and I am going to buy then lenses for about $40. Total: less than $290 shipped. And I can sell a set of bulbs if I chose.

FYI, you may not want to use those lenses...i bought a TSX replica clear lense from them and I regret it.

Also a LOT of people have had issues with retrofitsource. Check out hidplanet.com/forums and do a search for them.

Just curious, what was wrong with the lenses??

Matt is the guy who owns TRS and I was happy with my transactions with him.. he's legit!
I bought the newer version 9007 harness and a set of FXR clear lenses and I'm happy with both..

The guys that are the retrofit source was the place where I learned to do retros when one of them did the write up on hidplanet. His username at the time was Scurt but he had a falling out with the admin there. There prices are pretty good and they usually have rare stuff. They sell stuff on ebay with the retrofitsource user name.

I've heard positive comments about them.

It's a good deal, if you're unfamiliar with retrofit components. FX are "name brand" projectors - they're good, they're compact, and when most people go to do a retrofit they have TSX or FX stuck in their heads. If you want the best setup possible, don't get it. If you are willing to take the time to learn about projectors, don't get it. If you're willing to spend a few weeks trolling ebay every few days for projectors, don't get it. If you want something that you can install and it will work, go for it. Keep in mind - FX are not the best bi-xenon. TL are the best, although bigger to work with. Murano/Porsche are great too, and you can usually find them on the cheap.

There's also a $15 cheaper kit with FX replicas, which are supposed to be pretty decent. Some comparisons on HID planet by member JVX

For comparison, from ebay
expect to pay $120-150 for FX projectors (MOHFpro90 got an excellent bargain)
generally about $50 for slightly used 85122
$60-80 for a pair of Hella gen 3 knockoffs (the ones TRS uses - same as ebay kit), or $120 for a pair of Matsu****a gen 3 (generally considered one of the best ballasts)
Shrouds can vary greatly - Some I've seen reach $100, most decent ones are $30-50 (e46 replica being the most popular), and you can occasionally pick them up for like $10. If you're DIY inclined, there are many DIY shrouds that can be made for cheap. If you look in my sig, the shrouds I use cost $12 for four of them, and look great IMO.
$20-30 is usually fine for harness

So, all in all, a FX retrofit can be done for like $300, if you DIY as much as possible, and search on ebay and HIDPlanet Classifieds

Don't search "TRS" or "theretrofitsource" on HID planet - they swear-filter it out to "Nice Try", but it still gets talked about as "matt" or "you know where I'm talking about" or "that retrofit place" or something vague.
